A dual-fuel engine system for a work vehicle includes an engine with a piston-cylinder arrangement defining a combustion chamber and an engine control unit (ECU). The ECU has a processing and memory architecture configured to execute instructions to deliver to the engine only a first fuel when an operating load of the engine is less than 5 a first predetermined threshold, deliver only a second fuel and operate the engine stoichiometrically when the operating load is greater than a second predetermined threshold. The second predetermined threshold is greater than the first predetermined threshold.

The power system includes a compression ignition engine configured to combust intake gas; an intake arrangement configured to intake charge air; an exhaust arrangement to receive a first portion of the exhaust; an EGR arrangement to receive a second portion of the exhaust as EGR gas; a first mixer to selectively mix a first portion of the EGR gas and the charge air as mixed gas; an intake heat exchanger positioned upstream or downstream of the first mixer and respectively configured to receive one of the intake charge air or the mixed gas such that heat is exchanged with engine coolant; a second mixer positioned downstream of the first mixer and the intake heat exchanger and configured to selectively mix a second portion of the EGR gas and the mixed gas to form the intake gas; and an intake manifold configured to direct the intake gas into the engine.

Work vehicle compression ignition power system with intake heat exchanger

A power system includes an intake arrangement and a compression ignition engine including piston-cylinder sets. Each piston-cylinder set includes: a cylinder; a piston positioned within the cylinder to form a combustion chamber in between; an intake valve configured to open and close the intake port; an exhaust valve configured to open and close the exhaust port; and a fuel injector. During an exhaust stroke, the exhaust valve is opened to enable exhaust gas to flow out; during an initial portion of an intake stroke, the intake valve is opened to enable the intake air to flow into the combustion chamber, and during a further portion of the intake stroke, the intake valve is closed and the exhaust valve is opened to enable a portion of the exhaust gas to flow back into the combustion chamber in order to create thermally stratified layers of intake gas and exhaust gas.

A power system for a work vehicle includes an intake arrangement for intake of charge air; a fuel arrangement including a fuel tank storing a low carbon fuel blend; an engine configured to receive, ignite, and combust a mixture of the charge air and the low carbon fuel blend; an exhaust arrangement positioned downstream to receive exhaust from the engine during combustion of the low carbon fuel blend; at least one exhaust sensor positioned at or proximate to the exhaust arrangement; and a controller. The controller is configured to receive an initial indication of a composition of the low carbon fuel blend; implement operating parameters with feedforward adjustments based on the initial indication of the composition of the low carbon fuel blend; receive feedback from the at least one exhaust sensor regarding operational conditions; and adjust the operating parameters based on the feedback.

A fuel injector clamp has a clamp body extending between a fuel rail side and a cylinder head side. The fuel rail side has a bolt fixing surface extending in a first plane and a rail mounting surface extending in an oblique second plane relative to the first plane. The cylinder head side has a clamp mounting surface extending in a third plane parallel to the first plane. The clamp body defines a first bolt bore, a second bolt bore, and an injector pocket. The first bolt bore extends from the bolt fixing surface at the fuel rail side through the clamp body to the cylinder head side perpendicular to the bolt fixing surface and the clamp mounting surface. The second bolt bore extends from the rail mounting surface at the fuel rail side into the clamp body perpendicular to the rail mounting surface. The injector pocket extends through the clamp mounting surface perpendicularly through the clamp body to the rail mounting surface. The first bolt bore and the injector pocket extend along parallel axes, and the second bolt bore extends along an axis that is oblique to the parallel axes.

A power system for a work vehicle, includes an intake arrangement configured to intake charge air; a fuel arrangement configured to provide at least one fuel; a compression ignition engine including a plurality of piston-cylinder sets configured to receive, ignite, and combust the at least one fuel from the fuel arrangement and intake gas that includes the charge air from the intake arrangement to generate mechanical power and exhaust gas; at least one compression ignition assistance apparatus associated with at least one of the intake arrangement and the fuel arrangement; and a controller coupled to command the compression ignition assistance apparatus, the intake arrangement, and the fuel arrangement such that, in an enhancement mode, the controller commands activation of the compression ignition assistance apparatus; and in a nominal mode, the controller commands or maintains deactivation of the compression ignition assistance apparatus.

A power system for a work vehicle includes an alcohol tank configured to store alcohol; a catalytic converter fluidly coupled to receive alcohol from the alcohol tank and configured to convert the alcohol into ether; and an engine including one or more piston-cylinder sets configured to selectively receive the alcohol stored in the alcohol tank and the ether converted by the catalytic converter and to combust the alcohol and the ether with air to produce mechanical power and exhaust gas.

An exhaust gas treatment system includes an exhaust gas pathway configured to receive exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine. The exhaust gas treatment system further includes a treatment element configured to reduce an emissions component of the exhaust gas, and a sample collector positioned within the exhaust gas pathway downstream of the treatment element. The sample collector includes a plurality of inlet openings spaced about a periphery of the exhaust gas pathway and configured to receive a sample of exhaust gas from the exhaust gas pathway, and an outlet in fluid communication with the plurality of inlet openings. A sensor located at the outlet of the sample collector is configured to measure a characteristic of the sample.

An exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger for allowing a flow of exhaust gas therethrough and a transfer of heat between the exhaust gas and a heat exchange fluid and a heat shield for shielding heat from exhaust gas flowing from an inlet of an exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger toward a plurality of conduits disposed downstream from the inlet are provided. The heat shield includes a heat shield body and a plurality of apertures extending through the heat shield body and configured to be aligned with a plurality of conduits of the exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger in a direction of flow of the exhaust gas through the exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger.

An anti-cavitation engine block includes a first cylinder having a first cylinder centerline, a second cylinder having a second cylinder centerline, and a first inter-cylinder wall section located between the first cylinder and the second cylinder along an axis perpendicular to the first and second cylinder centerlines. A first plurality of anti-cavitation channels is formed in the first inter-cylinder wall section. A cylinder liner is inserted into the first cylinder and has an outer circumferential surface toward which the first plurality of anti-cavitation channels open. A water jacket extends at least partially around the outer circumferential surface of the cylinder liner. The first plurality of anti-cavitation channels increase local radial thicknesses of the water jacket to deter cavitation within the water jacket and adjacent the cylinder liner during engine operation.

A cooling jacket is formed at least in part within the cylinder head mounted on an engine block defining one or more piston cylinders and one or more intake and exhaust ports in communication with each piston cylinder. The cooling jacket includes a first passageway, a second passageway and a turbulence chamber. The first passageway extends from a first flow passage and intersects the turbulence chamber at a first angular position, and the second passageway extends from a second flow passage and intersects the turbulence chamber at a second angular position different from the first angular position. A swirling action is imparted to fluid media passing through the turbulence chamber.
