An electrical cable includes a conductor assembly having a first conductor, a second conductor and an insulator surrounding the first conductor and the second conductor. The insulator has an outer surface having an RMS roughness of less than 1.0 micrometers. A cable shield provides electrical shielding for the first and second conductors and has a metallized conductive layer on the outer surface of the insulator. A method of manufacturing an electrical cable includes feeding a first conductor and a second conductor to a core extruder, extruding an insulator around the first and second conductors at the core extruder, heating an outer surface of the insulator to lower a roughness profile of the outer surface, and directly apply a conductive layer to the outer surface of the insulator.

Electrical cable

A pluggable module includes a housing and cables arranged as a cable bundle extending from a module cavity of the housing. Each cable includes first and second conductors and an insulator surrounding the conductors. Each cable is obround shaped having generally flat first and second ends and semi-circular first and second sides between the first and second ends. The pluggable module includes a cable organizer coupled to the cable bundle to position the cables relative to each other. The cable organizer has cable channels receiving and holding the cables such that at least a first subset of the cables are oriented with the first and second ends non-parallel to the first and second ends of a second subset of the cables.

An electrical connector assembly includes a carrier having an upper surface and a lower surface and having a plurality of contact openings therethrough. The electrical connector assembly includes contacts received in corresponding contact openings forming a contact array. Each contact has a conductive polymer column extending between an upper mating interface and a lower mating interface. The contacts in the contact array have variable heights to vary relative positions of at least one of the upper mating interfaces or the lower mating interfaces of the contacts.

An electrical cable includes a conductor assembly having a first conductor, a second conductor and an insulator surrounding the first conductor and the second conductor. The insulator has an outer surface and extends along a longitudinal axis for a length of the electrical cable. The conductor assembly has a coating layer on the outer surface of the insulator being conductive defining an inner electrical shield of the electrical cable. A cable shield is wrapped around the conductor assembly and has an inner edge and an outer edge. The outer edge is wrapped over the inner edge to form a flap covering the inner edge and extending along the longitudinal axis. The cable shield engages the inner electrical shield and forms an outer electrical shield exterior of the inner electrical shield.

An electrical connector assembly includes a contact organizer having a substrate having a lower surface facing the host circuit board and an upper surface facing a component circuit board. The electrical connector includes data transmission contacts each including a main body, a upper mating element extending from the main body top mated to the component circuit board, and a lower mating element extending from the main body bottom soldered to the host circuit board. The main body includes a main body length between the top and the bottom and an adjustable height section to adjust a height of the main body between the top and the bottom. The adjustable height sections of the data transmission contacts are varied to adjust vertical positions of at least one of the upper mating element or the lower mating element such that the contacts have variable heights.

An electrical cable includes a conductor assembly having a first conductor, a second conductor and an insulator surrounding the first conductor and the second conductor. The insulator has an outer surface. The conductor assembly extends along a longitudinal axis for a length of the electrical cable. The first conductor has a first core and a first conductive layer on the first core. The second conductor has a second core and a second conductive layer on the second core. The first and second cores are dielectric. The electrical cable includes a cable shield around the conductor assembly engaging the outer surface of the insulator and providing electrical shielding for the first and second conductors. The cable shield extends along the longitudinal axis.

An electrical cable includes a conductor assembly having a first conductor, a second conductor, and an insulator structure surrounding the first conductor and the second conductor. The first and second conductors carry differential signals. The insulator structure has an outer surface. A cable shield is wrapped around the conductor assembly and engages the outer surface of the insulator structure. The cable shield has an inner edge and a flap covering the inner edge. The cable shield forms a void at the inner edge being located closer to the first conductor than the second conductor. The air void compromising the first conductor by reducing an effective dielectric constant surrounding the first conductor. The first conductor is shifted closer to the cable shield a shift distance compared to the second conductor to increase capacitance of the first conductor compared to the second conductor.

An electrical cable includes a conductor assembly having a first conductor, a second conductor, a first insulator surrounding the first conductor and a second insulator surrounding the second conductor. The first insulator has a first thickness between the first conductor and an outer surface. The second insulator has a second thickness between the second conductor and an outer surface. The first thickness is greater than the second thickness. A cable shield is wrapped around the conductor assembly and engages the outer surface of the first insulator along a first segment and engaging the outer surface of the second insulator along a second segment. The cable shield has an inner edge and a flap covering the inner edge. The cable shield forms a void at the inner edge located closer to the first conductor than the second conductor.

An electrical cable includes a conductor assembly having a first conductor, a second conductor and an insulator surrounding the first conductor and the second conductor. The conductor assembly extends along a longitudinal axis for a length of the electrical cable, along a lateral axis bisecting the first and second conductors, and along a transverse axis centered between the first and second conductors. The longitudinal axis, the lateral axis and the transverse axis are mutually perpendicular axes. The insulator has an outer surface. A cable shield is wrapped around the core having an inner edge and a flap covering the inner edge. The cable shield forms a void at the inner edge. The cable shield engages the outer surface entirely circumferentially around the insulator except at the void. The void is aligned with the transverse axis.

An electrical contact is provided. The electrical contact includes a mating segment configured to engage another contact. The mating segment extends a length to a contact end of the mating segment. The mating segment includes a first mating zone that is located a distance from the contact end along the length of the mating segment. The first mating zone is configured to intimately engage the other contact in a first plane for electrical communication between the electrical contact and the other contact. The mating segment includes a second mating zone that is offset from the first mating zone along the length of the mating segment in a direction toward the contact end. The second mating zone is configured to intimately engage the other contact in a second plane that extends approximately perpendicular to the first plane for electrical communication between the electrical contact and the other contact.

Thermal-transfer assembly includes a first transfer module having a plurality of first projections. The first projections are spaced apart from one another to form corresponding gaps therebetween. The thermal-transfer assembly also includes a second transfer module having a plurality of second projections. The second projections are spaced apart from one another to form corresponding gaps therebetween. The first and second transfer modules interface with each other in a mated arrangement. The first and second projections project in opposite directions along a Z-axis and intimately engage one another to transfer thermal energy therebetween. The thermal-transfer assembly also includes an assembly clip coupled to and configured to engage each of the first and second transfer modules. The assembly clip prevents the first and second transfer modules from separating along the Z-axis and/or biases the first and second transfer modules away from each other along the Z-axis.

Electrical connector having a plurality of compliant contacts coupled to a connector body. Each of the compliant contacts includes a base portion and first and second legs extending from the base portion to respective distal ends in a mounting direction. Each of the first and second legs includes an inner edge and an outer edge. Each of the inner edges extends from the base portion to a corresponding inflection area. A gap between the first and second legs decreases as the inner edges approach the corresponding inflection areas in the mounting direction. The inflection areas of the inner edges directly interface with each other at a contact zone.

An electrical connector includes a contact module including a leadframe assembly and a dielectric frame overmolded on the leadframe assembly. The leadframe assembly includes a primary leadframe having signal conductors with transition contacts encased in the dielectric frame. At least some of the signal conductors have mating contacts extending from corresponding transition contacts configured to be electrically connected to corresponding signal contacts of a mating connector. The leadframe assembly includes a secondary leadframe is mechanically and electrically connected to the primary leadframe. The secondary leadframe has mounting segments connected to corresponding signal conductors of the primary leadframe. The secondary leadframe has mating contacts extending from corresponding mounting segments configured to be electrically connected to corresponding signal contacts of the mating connector. The secondary leadframe may be welded to the primary leadframe.

A mezzanine receptacle connector includes a housing having a mating end configured to be mated with a mezzanine header connector and a mounting end configured to be mounted to a circuit board. The mating end is opposite the mounting end and includes a plurality of contact cavities configured to receive associated header contacts of the mezzanine header connector. Receptacle contacts are received in corresponding contact cavities of the housing. Each receptacle contact has a main contact and a sub-contact extending from the main contact. The main contact defines a first mating interface and the sub-contact defines a second mating interface. The first and second mating interfaces of each receptacle contact are configured to directly engage the same header contact of the mezzanine header connector at different points of contact.

An electrical component including a substrate having opposite first and second sides and a plurality of vias extending into the substrate from the first side. The substrate has first conductive pads on the first side that are electrically connected to corresponding vias. The electrical component also includes a plurality of electrical contacts that are mounted to the substrate along the first side. Each of the electrical contacts includes a contact heel and a contact beam that extends from the corresponding contact heel and at least partially away from the first side. The contact heels are laser-welded to corresponding first conductive pads.
