A system in one embodiment is operative to attempt to decode decodable indicia. The system can include an imaging assembly and a display. The display can be operative to display image data output utilizing the imaging assembly.

System having imaging assembly for use in output of image data

The improved medical instrument is adapted to remove obstructions from ear canals, nostrils and endotracheal tube airways. It includes an elongated handle with an elongated hollow tube connected to the front end thereof and an elongated flexible wire extending from the front end of the tube. The front end of the wire is curved to form a scoop for removing obstructions from a lumen. In one embodiment the wire and tube are removable as a replaceable unit from the front end of the handle. In another embodiment the handle has a central cavity therein communicating with the cavity in the tube and through both of which the wire extends. The wire is connected to a spring which extends out of the handle. The spring biases the wire into the tube. When the wire is manually depressed the front end of the wire extends out of tube and curves into the desired scoop configuration. The instrument can include a light which is switched on when the wire extends out of the tube and which is used to light the lumen. In another embodiment the front end of the wire forms a loop which goes back into the tube, which is flexible, the loop being extendable from the tube by spring biasing. In a further embodiment one end of the loop is secured to the exterior of the tube and the loop is shielded by a removable cap.

Medical instrument for removing lumen obstructions

The ear lavage and medical examination table includes an upper plate and a lower plate connected thereto at the rear ends of the two plates. The upper plate has a front head support portion with an ear lavage drain hole extending down therethrough. Preferably, the upper plate is curved or dished to comfortably support the torso of a patient. The lower plate is preferably horizontal while the upper plate rises thereabove at an angle from the rear end to the front end of the table. In one embodiment the two plates are integral and the angle is fixed. In another embodiment the two plates are interconnected so that the angle and distance therebetween can be adjusted. The table also includes a water catch tray supported on the upper surface of the lower plate directly below the upper plate hole and removeable therefrom for emptying. The tray bears a light and a mirror. The mirror can be secured to a flexible base support slideably disposed in an elongated slot in the tray for accurate positioning of the mirror. In one embodiment the mirror is secured to an upstanding wall of the tray. The table is light in weight and adapted to be placed on a lower support table or the like.

Ear lavage and examination table

The pneumatic otoscope includes a speculum which has an elongated preferably generally cylindrical body with a rear end to which a vewing lens is fixed to seal that end. The opposite front end of the speculum is open. The sidewall of the speculum body is closed and defines a generally central space extending from the rear end to the front end of the body. The speculum body also has at least one opening extending peripherally through the sidewall. To the front end of the speculum body is secured a forwardly projecting extension having a closed sidewall defining a passageway extending from the rear end of the extension to the open front end thereof and in communication with the space in the speculum body. The extension tapers from its rear end to its narrow diameter front end which is adapted to be inserted into an ear canal to a point adjacent an eardrum. The device also includes a flexible, resilient, elastic, shape-retaining insufflator having a closed body defining a cavity in communication with the speculum body opening in the sidewall thereof. The insufflator is sealed to the exterior of the sidewall of the speculum body. The insufflator preferably is a torus surrounding the top and sidewall of the speculum body and in one embodiment the bottom of the speculuam body. Compression of the insufflator causes air to shoot out the front of the extension to imp act an eardrum to test its mobility. The extension and/or the lens may be removeable.

Pneumatic otoscope

The improved otoscope and rhinoscope device includes a resilient, flexible deformable ring with elastic memory. The ring is circular or oval and of metal, an elastomer such as plastic or rubber or of a plurality of interconnected springs of metal, plastic or the like. The ring has a groove on both the top and bottom thereof to receive on the top the forefinger of a medical practitioner and on the bottom the thumb of that practitioner. In the central cavity in the ring is secured a spaced pair of spreaders. Each spreader has a horizontal support bar extending transversely into the cavity, the two support bars being connected to opposite sides of the ring in the same plane and bearing on their free ends a spaced pair of spreader blades extending forwardly of the ring at about the midline thereof. The spreader blades have smoothly curved outer surfaces to engage the sidewalls of an ear canal or sidewalls of a nare when the ring is compressed vertically, thus increasing the spacing between the spreader blades. The spreaders can be of metal, plastic or the like. Since the ring is resilient, when compression is terminated the ring returns to its original shape. Three fingers and the entire palm of the hand holding the ring are available to stabilize a patient's head against movement. The spreader blades straighten the ear canal for proper viewing of it and the tympanic membrane without having to retract the pinna with the other hand.
