A detection device for detecting the presence of a speed detection system, red light camera, or other electronic surveillance means. The device includes a display means whereby the graphical and audible presentation changes from the non alert condition to the alert condition in accordance to a user selectable choice of options, thereby increasing awareness to the surveillance threat.

The present invention provides a power plug for insertion into a cigarette lighter socket for powering an electronic device. The invention includes a housing and electrical contacts and a two-conductor cable coupled to the housing for supplying power to the electronic device. An electronic circuit inside the housing controls power to the electronic device, and a switch coupled to the housing controls one or more programmable functions of the electronic device. The particular function controlled by the switch depends on the length of time the switch is depressed (e.g., greater or less then 0.5 second).

A method for detecting radar is provided by the present invention. The invention begins by sweeping a first local oscillator (LO). Once a band has been identified as containing a radar signal, the detector interrupts its normal operation and rechecks the frequency in question for confirmation of CW radar, rather than waiting for the initial sweep to finish. Upon receiving partial information from the initial fast sweep, the detector may repeat this sweep at a slower rate in order to improve sensitivity towards a CW source. If information was from a CW source one can be assured to see the information again when sweeping the same frequency. By contrast, if initial information is from a swept radar detector the information will not be present in the rescan, as the offending radar detector would have moved to a different frequency during the same period of time.

A detector device for detecting the presence of a speed detection system which includes a displaying means which pivots in relation to the device's housing thereby allowing a user to selectively adjust the orientation of the display to maximize the display's visual output without detracting from the alignment/orientation of the device's detection means.

Apparatus for detecting the presence of a speed detection system includes a microcontroller, a laser detector circuit coupled to the microcontroller, a radar detector circuit coupled to the microcontroller and a display coupled to the microcontroller, wherein the microcontroller receives signals from the laser detector and radar detector circuits and in response to the signals fed thereto, the microcontroller provides an output signal indicating which of the laser and radar detector circuits fed a signal thereto.

A vehicle security system including a remote control communicating with the system via an RF link for remotely arming and/or disarming the system. Modes of system operation include an armed mode in which sensor outputs are monitored for intrusion indicating conditions and an RF receiver is monitored for remote commands, an alarm mode in which a siren is sounded in response to a detection of an intrusion indicating condition during the armed mode, a disarmed mode in which sensor monitoring for intrusion conditions is disabled, a programming mode in which features of the system are programmable, a valet mode in which only selected sensor outputs are monitored, and a pre-arming mode following system disarming and prior to passive arming, in which the door switch is monitored. A display facilitates programming by providing an indication of the present position within the programming sequence. A customizable auxiliary feature is operable with the remote control during both the armed and disarmed modes and is disabled during the valet mode of operation. The remote control includes a combination vehicle locator/personal safety feature and a power reserving time-out feature. The remote control battery status is indicated both on the remote and on a display located in the vehicle. The vehicle security system includes a memory device for storing system status information so that, upon power up, the system resumes the mode of operation preceding the previous power interruption. The programmable features include adjustable siren chirp volume and selectable siren alarm patterns.
