A method for producing cardiomyocyte cells including implanting a substrate within a heart such that a first portion of the substrate is in physical contact with an endocardium and a second portion of the substrate is not in contact with the endocardium, maintaining the first portion of the substrate in contact with the endocardium for a time at least sufficient to form trabecular fibers extending between the endocardium and the second portion of the substrate, cutting away the trabecular fibers from the endocardium, cutting away the trabecular fibers from the substrate, and removing the trabecular fibers from the heart, wherein the trabecular fibers include cardiomyocyte cells.

The implantable antibacterial barrier device includes a housing configured to be disposed at the first site, a working electrode configured to be disposed at the second site, and a reference electrode configured to be disposed at the first site. The housing includes barrier circuitry. The working electrode electrically is coupled to the barrier circuitry. The reference electrode is electrically coupled to the barrier circuitry. The barrier circuitry is configured to selectively maintain the working electrode at a negative electrical potential relative to the reference electrode to form an antibacterial barrier.

Also provided are methods for evaluating the risk of a VTA event in a subject. Also provided are kits for performing any of these methods.

A system to reduce ischemic or metabolic injury to a patient's heart may include a pulse generator for generating electrical pulses or shock, a pacing lead with at least one pacing electrode configured to deliver electrical pulses received from the pulse generator to the patient's heart, a controller configured to control timing of electrical pulses to reduce wall stress of the heart, and a reservoir, fluidically coupled to a lumen and a pump, wherein the pump is configured, under control of the controller, to move contents from the reservoir through the lumen to an area of the heart with the reduced wall stress, wherein the contents include autologous respiration-competent mitochondria or other respiratory-promoting agents.

Systems and methods to reduce injury in the heart

Embodiments herein include methods for enhancing post-ischemic functional recovery through administration of mitochondria and related devices and methods. In an embodiment, a method for enhancing post-ischemic functional recovery is included. The method can include harvesting somatic cells from a patient or a donor, converting the somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells, extracting mitochondria from the induced pluripotent stem cells, and transplanting the mitochondria into the patient. Embodiments of the disclosure are related to systems and methods for utilizing biomarker panel data with respect to medical devices and methods, amongst other things. In an embodiment, the disclosure can include a method of predicting the likelihood of response to CRT therapy. The method can include quantifying levels of one or more biomarkers in a biological sample of a patient, analyzing the quantified levels to determine response to CRT therapy, wherein a panel of biomarkers includes at least two selected from the group consisting of CRP, SGP-130, sIL-2R, sTNFR-II, IFNg, BNP, sST2, MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, TIMP-2, TIMP-4. The response monitor may calculate evoked response metrics (ERMs) using the first and second population data where each of the ERMs may be dependent on background autonomic activity.
