A system and a method include a fixture template configured to be secured to a component. The fixture template includes a plurality of insert holes. A plurality of guide inserts have channels. Each of the channels has an orientation. The orientation of at least two of the plurality of guide inserts differs. Each of the plurality of guide inserts is removably secured within a respective one of the plurality of inserts holes to position and orient the channels in relation to a pattern of openings to be formed in relation to the component. Each of the channels is configured to receive an operative member of a tool that is configured to form the pattern of openings in relation to the component.

Tool alignment system and method

According to an embodiment, three-dimensional (3D) scan data representative of an in-service structure that is captured by a scanning device is accessed by a processor circuit. Based on the 3D scan data, in-service computer-aided design (CAD) data representative of an in-service surface corresponding to the in-service structure is generated by the processor circuit. Based on the in-service CAD data representative of the in-service surface, at least one of a serviceability level or remaining life estimate of the in-service structure is determined.

Determining servicability and remaining life of an in-service structure using three-dimensional scan data

A method includes receiving three-dimensional (3D) measurement data based on a measurement of a first used component of a particular component type. The method also includes performing a comparison of the 3D measurement data to in-service tolerances associated with the particular component type, the in-service tolerances determined based on a measurement of at least a second used component of the particular component type and an evaluation of structural characteristics of the second used component. The method further includes generating, based on the comparison, an output indicating whether the first used component is acceptable for reuse.

System and method for evaluation of used components

A measurement system including a tracking measurement device, a tracked measurement device, and a positioning unit disposed at least partly on the tracked measurement device. The positioning unit includes a tracking groove formed in a surface of the positioning unit, the tracking groove having a non-repeating pattern, and a positioning target configured to interface with the tracking groove so as to be movable within and along at least a portion of the tracking groove, where the positioning target is configured to interface with the tracking measurement device to effect a position determination of the tracked measurement device in a global coordinate system of the tracking measurement device.

Tracking measurement system and method

A method of replacing an existing part or parts on a structure such as an aircraft. The structure is inducted for modification. An existing part is removed and a new part is temporarily installed. Hole locations are digitally transferred to the new part, e.g., photographically captured in a three-dimensional coordinate measurement system, converted to targets printable in a laser projection system. Targets are laser projected or printed on the replacement part. Holes are drilled at each printed target. The holes drilled at printed targets match hole locations on the existing part. Then, the new/replacement part is permanently attached to the structure.
