A test and measurement instrument and method of detecting an anomaly in a test and measurement instrument are disclosed. The test and measurement instrument includes an input terminal configured to receive a signal. An acquisition engine is coupled to the input terminal, the acquisition engine being configured to digitize the signal and store the digitized signal as a signal history in an acquisition memory based on initial trigger settings. An anomaly detector is coupled to the acquisition memory, the anomaly detector being configured to detect an anomaly in the signal history. An analysis engine is coupled to the anomaly detector, the analysis engine being configured to analyze the anomaly detected in the signal history and generate modified trigger settings for detecting the anomaly. Trigger circuitry is coupled to the analysis engine, the trigger circuitry being configured to trigger based on the modified trigger settings.

Rare anomaly triggering in a test and measurement instrument

A method of region overlap control for the display of a plurality of waveforms on an instrument includes an overlap function that allows selection by a user of a vertical height on a display screen for each of the waveforms. A ground marker for each of the waveforms is adjusted on the display screen according to the selected vertical height. The result is that the plurality of waveforms are displayed on the display screen in an overlapping fashion with sufficient vertical height to enhance triggering, all measurement functions and secondary functions, such as harmonics and switching loss measurements.

Region overlap control for autorange/autoset functions

A method of reducing color smearing or color artifacts in a low resolution picture that is subjected to chrominance downsampling prior to display on a display device first upsamples the pixels in each row of the picture to double the picture width, then downsamples the chrominance values to produce a compressed data stream for transmission to the display device, and finally decompresses the compressed data stream for display. In order to maintain the aspect ration of the original picture, each doubled row may be repeated prior to transmission to the display device.

Apparatus and method of reducing color smearing artifacts in a low resolution picture

Apparatus for promoting waste-free primary flow in a patient monitoring device is disclosed and includes a waste trap with a body defining a waste chamber with the body including an entry port for communication with a primary channel of the device, and an exit port for communication with a secondary channel of the device. The exit port has a first cross-sectional area. The exit port is defined by a porous, gas-permeable, waste-blocking member that extends into the chamber to promote waste-free primary flow in any orientation of the trap. The member has a total-pore area exceeding the first cross-sectional area. Operatively connected between the ports is means for monitoring the differential pressure therebetween and for sending signals representative of such pressure to associated control circuitry of the device for determining the volume of waste in said body based on signals received from the monitoring means.

Apparatus for promoting waste-free primary flow in a patient monitoring

A microprocessor-controlled, oscillometric method for determining a patient's systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure, practiced in a system comprising an inflatable, occluding cuff, a pump and a valve coupled to the cuff, and monitoring apparatus coupled to the cuff adapted to measure cuff pressure and recurring blood-pressure pulsations occurring in the cuff that are caused by each heart contraction occurring in a measurement cycle. Cuff pressure is raised to a level above the patinet's systolic pressure, and progressively reduced in a stepwise fashion to an ending cuff pressure. A fixed number of pulsations are measured and processed at a first and second cuff-pressure step, and a generally lesser number of oscillations are measured and processed at a third and subsequent cuff-pressure steps. The method includes a first artifact rejection technique used to check for false data relative to the formation of each blood-pressure pulsation. Further, the method includes calculating, for each blood-pressure pulsation, the impulse of a force that is exerted upon the patinet's blood from, and during, each heart contraction that occurs in the measurement cycle. An impulse value is stored relative to each pulsation. A second artifact rejection technique is used, beginning at the second cuff-pressure step, to generate a prediction curve for predicting a next, expected-to-be-stored pulsation impulse value for a next, lower cuff-pressure step. The second artifact rejection technique is also used to repeatedly smooth the prediction curve based on the difference between a pulsation's calculated impulse value and its respective predicted impulse value. A final, smoothed curve is generated reflecting a final impulse value for each cuff-pressure step. From the final curve, the desired blood pressure parameters are derived and displayed in the form of arabic numerals by means of an LCD readout.

Method for noninvasive blood-pressure measurement by evaluation of

A method and apparatus for the indirect measurement of blood pressure is disclosed. Pressure is applied to a cuff attached to a patient adjacent a blood vessel and a quantity representative of the patient's blood pressure is measured as the applied pressure is changed. A table of values of the quantity as the applied pressure is changed is formed. Valves of the table are selected as spurious high and low values in response to predetermined criteria and new values assigned to the selected values which reduces the error in calculating systolic and diastolic blood pressure from the table.

Method and apparatus for indirect blood pressure measurement

A method and apparatus for the indirect measurement of blood pressure is disclosed. Pressure is applied to a cuff attached to a patient adjacent a blood vessel and a quantity representative of the patient's blood pressure is measured as the applied pressure is changed. A first table of values of the quantity as the applied pressure is changed is formed. Values of the first table are selected as spurious high and low values in response to predetermined criteria and new values assigned to the selected values which reduces the error in calculating systolic and diastolic blood pressures from the table. A second table of heart rate values as the applied pressure is changed is formed. Selected heart rate values are set to zero based on predetermined criteria and the locations of the zeros are compared with the locations of systolic, diastolic and maximum values in first table to determine whether to reject or abort the blood pressure reading.
