Methods and systems are provided for autonomously operating a retractable lighting arrangement. One method involves obtaining a current speed of the vehicle when the lighting arrangement is in an extended state, and when the current speed is greater than a threshold when the lighting arrangement is in the extended state, verifying one or more illumination elements associated with the lighting arrangement are in a deactivated state and thereafter automatically signaling an actuation arrangement associated with the lighting arrangement to transition the lighting arrangement from the extended state to a retracted state.

Retractable lighting systems and autoretraction methods

A search and landing light for a vehicle includes a light emitting element having an output primarily along a first axis and a canopy surrounding the light emitting element. The search and landing light includes a housing to enclose one or more electrical components associated with the search and landing light. The housing and the canopy extend along a longitudinal axis that is substantially perpendicular to the first axis. The search and landing light includes an actuator coupled between the canopy and disposed in the housing. The actuator is disposed along the longitudinal axis and is configured to rotate the canopy relative to the housing.

Systems and methods for search and landing light

A laser light assembly includes a substrate, a reflective phosphor plate, a plurality of laser diodes, a light shield, at least one mirror, a plurality of beam-shaping lenses, and a first lens. The reflective phosphor plate is coupled to the substrate and converts incident blue laser light into white light. The laser diodes emit the blue laser light. The light shield prevents the blue laser light emitted by the laser diodes from escaping the assembly. The mirror reflects the blue laser light emitted from each laser diode toward a predetermined position on the reflective phosphor plate, whereby the reflective phosphor plate emits white light. The beam-shaping lenses are disposed between a different one of the laser diodes and the mirror. The first lens receives the white emitted from the reflective phosphor plate.

Compact laser light assembly

A lighting device including a plurality of light-emitting semiconductor devices. The light-emitting semiconductor devices are separated into at least two subgroups. The lighting device further includes a plurality of optics separated into at least two subgroups, which are arranged relative to the plurality of light-emitting semiconductor devices such that each one of the plurality of light-emitting semiconductor devices of a first subgroup is located at a focal point of a respective optic of a first subgroup of the plurality of optics, and such that each one of the plurality of light-emitting semiconductor devices of a second subgroup is located at a focal point of a respective optic of a second subgroup of the plurality of optics. The optical properties of the first subgroup and second subgroup of the plurality of optics are different. The lighting device further includes a controller module configured to control at least two current signals supplied from a power source to each of the at least two subgroups of light-emitting semiconductor devices, respectively. The controller module is configured to modify the beam width and the peak intensity of the emitted beam of light by varying the magnitude of the respective at least two current signals.

Lighting devices with variable beam patterns

A searchlight assembly has a first housing portion and a second housing portion, wherein each of the first housing portion and the second housing portion has operably secured to form an enclosed space: a heat sink, a reflector and a lens. The first housing portion and the second housing portion being are joined to form a housing assembly. The first housing portion heat sink and the second housing portion heat sink are disposed adjacent to one another and form a cooling medium flow path there between, and the heat sink elements of each heat sink thermally communicate with the flow path. A first LED is directly thermally coupled to the heat sink within in the first housing portion enclosed space and a second LED is directly thermally coupled to the heat sink within the second housing portion enclosed space.

LED searchlight and method

A lighting assembly apparatus for wingtip position lights and an anti-collision light (ACL). The lighting assembly apparatus reduces light flashback caused by the ACL by including one or more internal baffles located inside of a lens. A lens retainer receives the lens. The lens retainer includes a base section and internal baffles. The one or more internal baffles include a crossbeam baffle that is attached between upper and lower surfaces of the lens retainer. The crossbeam baffle reduces light flashback caused by the ACL and complies with ACL/regulatory requirements. The internal baffle includes a stepped edge that also reduces light flashback caused by the ACL and complies with ACL requirements.

Apparatus for reducing flashback produced by an anti-collision light

A solid state microprocessor or digital signal processor (DSP) for dual mode illumination and dimming into modern aerospace searchlights. The system is a universal dimming platform with 'smart functions' that include and are not limited to multiple light intensity linearization curves, analog and/or digital input dimming interface, built-in tests and health monitoring, synchronized dual mode light output with canopy position, light driver redundancy, lamp life reporting, and controlled switching with improved EMI. With real-time monitoring of the system parameters it monitors the lights proper operation and failures which can be a concern for flight-critical lighting.

Dual mode searchlight dimming controller systems and methods

A lighthead for a dual-mode searchlight including a generally concave housing with an attached infrared (IR) light source assembly, an insulating barrier and air gap between the visible and IR portions of the assembly, and a reflector integral to the housing.

Integrated searchlight lighthead

An electronically controlled retractable landing light () for use with aircraft. A controller () compares the commanded position of a lighthead () by means of a contactless absolute position sensor (). Operation of a brake (), motor (), and lamp () is controlled by a control unit (). Electrical power to the brake (), motor (), and lamp () is slowly applied and removed to reduce electromagnetic emissions and extend the service life of a power stage (), brake (), motor (), and lamp (). The lighthead () may be manually stowed in the event of a fault.

Electronically controlled aircraft retractable landing light with manual retraction capability

A multi-mode visible and infrared lighthead () for use as a landing light or searchlight. The multi-mode lighthead incorporates a modular design wherein at least one visible light source () and at least one infrared diode () are mounted into the rear sector () of a housing (). Visible or infrared light is emitted out of the front sector () of the housing (). Lenses () are installed onto the front sector () of the housing () and sealed to protect the interior of the lighthead () from the elements. Alternatively, and in combination, an imaging module (), and infrared laser () and/or a fixed-position searchlight with rangefinder and positioning capability is provided in the multi-mode lighthead().
