A system and method for locating a target nerve associated with a facet joint via nerve stimulation and monitoring of electrical muscle activity in a multifidus muscle adjacent the target nerve are described. The system includes a probe housed within a cannula and comprising a probe electrode; a recording electrode for monitoring electrical muscle activity in a medial fascicle of the multifidus muscle; a signal generator; and a controller coupled to the probe electrode and recording electrode. The controller delivers a nerve stimulation from the signal generator to the nerve via the probe electrode and monitors electrical muscle activity in the medial fascicle via the recording electrode. The probe's proximity to the nerve is determined by the electrical muscle activity in the medial fascicle elicited as a result of the nerve stimulation, where the controller provides feedback to a user to guide placement of the probe adjacent the nerve.

A cooling radiofrequency ablation probe for delivering electrical and thermal energy to tissue of a patient's body is provided. The probe comprises a handle having an upper portion, a lower portion, and a Luer connector. The probe further comprises an extended electrocap assembly interfacing with one end of the handle, and a cable-tubing assembly interfacing with another end of the handle. The cable-tubing assembly includes an electrical cable that terminates at an electrical connector and a dual-lumen fluid tubing that terminates at inlet and outlet fluid connectors. An active tip of the extended electrocap assembly is configured to deliver the electrical and thermal energy to the tissue of the patient's body.

Cooled radiofrequency ablation probe

Systems and methods for controlling energy delivered to an area of tissue during a treatment procedure are provided. The system includes a device for delivering energy to the area of tissue; an energy generator for generating and supplying energy to the device; and a controller for controlling an amount of energy generated by the energy generator and delivered to the area of tissue by the device. Controlling the amount of energy delivered to the area of tissue alters a primary zone of the area of tissue to a first level, alters a secondary zone to a second level, alters a tertiary zone to a third level, or a combination thereof, where the first level, the second level, the third level, or a combination thereof is predetermined, and where a coverage area of the primary zone, the secondary zone, the tertiary zone, or a combination thereof is also predetermined.

System and method for controlling energy delivered to an area of tissue during a treatment procedure

A dual cooled radiofrequency ablation probe assembly optimized for treatment of a patient's knee joint includes at least two cooled radiofrequency ablation probes. Each cooled radiofrequency ablation probe includes an electrically and thermally-conductive energy delivery device for delivering electrical or radiofrequency treatment to the patient. The probe assembly further includes cooling fluid tubing for supplying the at least two cooled radiofrequency ablation probes with cooling fluid, and an electrical cable for supplying the at least two cooled radiofrequency ablation probes with electrical energy. The at least two probes are tethered together by the cooling fluid tubing and the electrical cable.
