A resilient face insert for a golf club head, preferably a putter head, is disclosed herein. In particular, the face insert comprises a plurality of hinge features spaced from a striking surface to ensure consistent ball speed across the striking surface. Each hinge feature comprises a tab portion that is spaced from the striking surface by a stem portion and that extends parallel to the striking surface, and is angled with respect to a horizontal y-axis. The orientation of hinge features with respect to the y-axis varies across the face, which reduces sidespin from mishits and produces consistent topspin regardless of impact location of a golf ball on the face insert.

A resilient face insert for a golf club head, preferably a putter head, is disclosed herein. In particular, the face insert comprises a plurality of hinge features spaced from a striking surface to ensure consistent ball speed across the striking surface. At least a portion of each hinge feature extends parallel to the striking surface without making contact with the striking surface. In the preferred embodiment, each hinge feature comprises a tab portion that is spaced from the striking surface by a stem portion and that extends parallel to the striking surface. The hinge features may be co-molded with a polymeric backing material having a plurality of parallel grooves in order to further improve performance of the face insert.

A putter head having variable face thickness or multiple materials and adjustable weighting features is disclosed herein. The variable face thickness may comprise a plurality of geometric shapes on the striking face surface with spacing between them that decreases in a top to bottom direction, or the face may include a plurality of angled carbon rods. The putter also includes an adjustable weight cartridge that can pivot in a toe-heel direction.

A face insert comprising a planar member composed of a rigid material such as plastic or metal and a polymeric backing is disclosed herein. The planar member, which makes contact with a golf ball during use, includes a plurality of geometrically-shaped holes, each of which comprises a perimeter edge that has a variable radius to further optimize performance of the face insert. In some embodiments, one or more of the holes extends completely through the planar member, i.e. is a through-hole, and the polymeric backing includes at least one protrusion with an angled upper surface that is sized to extend into a through-hole and further improve performance of the face insert. The face insert described herein can be used with any type of golf club head, including putters, woods, irons, and hybrids, and the holes may take any shape, including oval, hexagonal, and chevron.

A putter-type golf club head with a sound chamber is disclosed herein. The club head comprises a body and a two-piece face insert disposed over the sound chamber. The sound chamber comprises a central sound sub-chamber and an outer sound sub-chamber, while the face insert comprises a first, metallic piece that includes a central recess, which is filled with a second, polymeric piece. The metallic piece is welded to the body, and the polymeric piece is adhered to the metallic piece. The body also includes at least one through-bore extending from the sound chamber through a back wall of the body. The body, the sound chamber, the face insert, and the through-bore amplify the sound generated by the putter-type golf club head striking a golf ball.
