This invention relates to polymer blends, which comprise at least one tapered conjugated diene-monovinylarene block copolymer and at least one styrenic polymer. The polymer blends possess good optical and mechanical properties.

Conjugated diene/monovinylarene block copolymers blends

A block copolymer comprising at least three consecutive conjugated diene/monovinylarene tapered blocks is provided. Other aspects of this invention include a polymerization process for preparing the block copolymer and polymer blends comprising the block copolymer. The block copolymer and polymer blends exhibit excellent optical and mechanical properties.

A single ply membrane roofing system includes a roofing insulation board which, preferably, is at least 45% by dry weight expanded perlite. One major surface of the insulation board is coated with a latex coating comprising, by dry weight, between 48.3% and 96% clay; between 3.1% and 33.3% latex; and between 0% and 34% sodium silicate. A single ply roofing membrane is adhered to the coated major surface of the insulation board with a roofing contact adhesive.

An insulation board suitable for use as a roof insulating board has a density between about 8 and about 15 pounds per cubic foot; a MOR/density ratio of at least 10.5 to 1 and includes, by dry weight, between about 45% and about 76% expanded perlite; between about 15% and about 45% cellulosic fibers; between about 0.1% and about 10% latex binder; between about 2% and about 9% bituminous material; and about 0% to about 3% alum.

Conjugated diene/monovinylarene block copolymers, methods for preparing

A composite filter media includes a fibrous filtration layer of randomly oriented fibers and one or more pleatable stiffening layers which enable the composite filter media to be pleated and hold or retain its pleats. The pleatable stiffening layer(s) may enhance the dirt holding capacity of the composite filter media especially when positioned upstream of the fibrous filtration layer. The composite filter media may also include a flexible covering layer which functions to block the loss of fibers from the fibrous filtration layer. Preferably, the mean fiber diameter of the fibers in fibrous filtration layer increases and the density of the fibrous filtration layer decreases throughout the thickness of the fibrous filtration layer from one major surface to the other major surface of the fibrous filtration layer.

By carefully adjusting the molecular weight and amounts of methacrylic acid and maleic acid and/or maleic anhydride comonomers in polyacrylic acid-based fiberglass binders, binder-treated fiberglass cured and B-staged product throughput may be maintained at production rates designed for phenol/formaldehyde binders due to the lower thermal requirements for cure as compared to homopolyacrylic acid-based binder systems.

A method for preparing block copolymers from which can be made transparent blue articles comprising sequentially charging under polymerization conditions at least one monovinylaromatic monomer and at least one conjugated diene monomer, wherein at least the first monomer charge is a monovinylaromatic monomer charge polymerized in the presence of an initiator; wherein at least one other charge polymerized in the presence of an initiator is a monomer selected from the group of conjugated diene monomers and mixtures of monovinylaromatic and conjugated diene monomers; wherein the final monomer charge is a conjugated diene charge; and thereafter charging the reaction mixture with at least one coupling agent. The invention copolymers are particularly useful for applications such as packaging, display devices, toys and decorative items in which transparent blue appearance is desired without significant compromise of other physical and mechanical properties.
