A toggling dispenser is disclosed with a reservoir capable of containing substances and an integrally placed applicator which, at the user's election, enters and exits the dispenser by shifting or shaking the dispenser. While inside the dispenser, an amount of contained substance collects on the applicator so that when the applicator exits the enclosure, the collected substance may be delivered to a target via contact with the applicator.

The application relates to a solid or semi-solid substance dispenser featuring a body, an opening, and a retractable barrel which may be electively presented at the opening whereby the solid or semi-solid substance might be projected from the barrel for application to a target.

Retractable solid or semi-solid substance dispenser

A retractable writing instrument may include a barrel having a front opening, a nib for moving through the front opening of the barrel between an extended position and a retracted position, a cartridge for receiving the nib and for folding a supply of ink, and a seal assembly received within the barrel through which the nib is passable. In a number of embodiments, when the nib is in the retracted position, the seal assembly is biased closed to seal the front of the retractable writing instrument. In addition, an outer surface of the cartridge may contact the seal assembly to form a rear seal such that a tip of the nib is positioned within the body member between the two seals. Accordingly, in these embodiments, the nib is sealed from ambient air when in the retracted position, thereby minimizing evaporation of ink from the cartridge. IN addition, the nib may be urged through the seal assembly while moving to the extended position to open the front of the retractable writing instrument. The rear seal may be opened prior to the nib breaking the front seal to form a vent between the cartridge and the body member. The seal assembly may include a spring member and a body member, with the spring member biasing the body member closed when the nib is in the retracted position. The body member may include an arcuate gate through which a slit is formed.

Retractable writing tool and self sealing valve

A retractable writing instrument that substantially prevents writing fluid from evaporating through the tip when the tip is in a retracted position to eliminate the need for a cap. Within the writing instrument is an enclosure member that has a vapor chamber. In the retracted position, the tip of the writing instrument is within the vapor chamber to substantially seal the tip from ambient air so that writing fluid does not evaporate through the tip. The enclosure member has a lip that opens to allow the tip to move forward and extend from the writing instrument so that writing fluid can be delivered to the writing surface for writing. When the tip is moved back into the retracted position the lip closes to substantially seal the tip from the ambient air. An external compression force may be applied to the lip to assist in sealing the lip. The enclosure member may be made of a material that is durable so that the lip does not wear out after many cycles of moving the tip between the retracted and protracted positions, such as silicone, butyl rubber, and thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) material including butyl rubber cross-linked with polypropylene.

Self-sealing retractable writing instrument

Apparatuses and methods for providing a multi-media writing instrument having locking grips. The grips are locked into position so that they will not rotate around the outer diameter of the pen. In particular, the upper grip of the multi-media writing instrument contains an indicator which denotes to the user the type of writing element being used and acts to lock the grip in position.
