A system for magnetic resonance imaging of anatomy including a head is provided. The system includes a base member, a plurality of support members, and a plurality of articulable reception units. The plurality of support members are movably fixed to the base member and configured to translate across a surface of the base member. Each support member is releasably securable to the base member in a plurality of positions along the surface of the base member. The articulable reception units are movable from an open position to a plurality of closed positions. Each reception unit comprises at least one radio frequency (RF) receive coil disposed within a body, with the body configured for abutment with a portion of a head. Each of the plurality of articulable reception units is releasably secured in the plurality of closed positions by at least one of the plurality of support members.

Adjustable head coil systems and methods for magnetic resonance imaging

An MR coil former apparatus includes a body, a coil array, and a coil cover. The body defines a patient-facing positive surface opposite a non-patient-facing negative surface. The positive surface of the body includes an anatomic contour, and the coil array is disposed adjacent and conformed to the anatomic contour. The coil cover is disposed overlying the coil array and conformed to the anatomic contour.

A PET-MR apparatus includes an MR imaging system for acquiring MR signals and a PET system for acquiring PET emissions of the patient. The PET-MR apparatus also includes an anterior surface coil configured to receive MR signals from a volume-of-interest of the patient in the bore and resulting from the emitted RF pulse sequence and a coil positioning structure mounted to the PET-MR apparatus and configured to receive the anterior surface coil thereon and position the anterior surface coil proximate to the volume-of-interest of the patient without coming in contact with the patient, with the coil positioning structure being configured to provide both a vertical adjustment of the anterior surface coil relative to a coronal plane of the patient and an angular adjustment of the anterior surface coil relative to the coronal plane of the patient.

A radio frequency (RF) coil array that includes an RF coil support structure, and a plurality of RF coils coupled to the RF coil support structure, the RF coil support structure configured to enable the plurality of RF coils to be positioned in an underlap configuration and repositioned to an overlap configuration.
