A multifunctional laryngoscope is provided that includes a handle comprising a proximal end and a distal end and a display screen on the handle. The laryngoscope includes a laryngoscope camera at the distal end of the handle and an introducer comprising an orientation sensor at a distal end of the introducer. The laryngoscope includes a processor programmed to execute instructions for receiving from a steering input a steering command in a first reference frame, and mapping the steering command to a second reference frame oriented to the distal end of the introducer based on an orientation signal from the orientation sensor.

Multifunctional visualization instrument with orientation control

An endoscope system is provided with a graphical orientation indicator. An endoscope includes a flexible tubular body with a steerable distal end having a camera. A controller for the endoscope presents a user interface that displays a view from the camera and a graphical orientation indicator visually representing an orientation of the distal end of the endoscope.

User interface for steerable endoscope

A steerable endoscope is provided with active steering control. An endoscope includes a flexible tubular body with first and second articulating segments, and a camera. In an embodiment, the endoscope includes an orientation sensor. A controller for the endoscope performs an automated analysis of an alignment between the motion axis of the endoscope and the viewing axis of the camera, and actively steers the endoscope to improve the alignment.

Steerable endoscope with motion alignment

A portable climbing system for mounting a tailgate includes a vehicle that has a tailgate. The tailgate has a front edge, a back edge and a first surface extending therebetween. The first surface is horizontally oriented when the tailgate is positioned in an open position. A climbing unit is removably coupled to the tailgate when the tailgate is positioned in the open position. The climbing unit facilitates climbing onto the tailgate from the ground.

Portable climbing system

A gas spectrometer is provided for the monitoring of the maintenance of desired calibration conditions. The inventive method and apparatus is particularly apt for use in respiratory gas spectrometers. Monitoring may be achieved by first establishing calibration condition values obtained by passing radiation beams through a reference gas chamber and purged, sample gas chambers upon initial calibration. Subsequently, e.g. after the spectrometer has been utilized in the field, corresponding test condition values are obtained by passing radiation beams through the same reference gas chamber and purged, sample gas chambers. Comparisons utilizing the calibrated condition values and test condition values can be made to monitor calibration variances (e.g. variances, in optical pathway conditions and depletion of the radiation source(s) utilized in the gas spectrometer).

Method and apparatus for monitoring maintenance of calibration condition

The disclosed gas analyzer (10) provides two separate folded optical paths (16 and 18) from a single source (12) to a single detector array (14) via a polychromatic filter (26). One optical path (16) passes through a sample gas chamber (24) containing a gas to be analyzed and the other path (18) passes through a reference chamber (30) containing a reference gas. On each optical path (16 or 18), radiation from the source (12) is collected by upstream optics (22 or 28) to form a converging beam (16b, c or 18b, c), thereby reducing or eliminating the need for collection optics at the detector array (14).
