A stator bar installation fixture and method for installing stator bars into specific stator core slots within a stator core of rotating electrical equipment. The stator bar installation fixture includes rotating mechanisms, rotatingly fixed at each end of the rotating electrical equipment, for supporting and controlling an angular positioning of a stator bar insertion mechanism relative to the stator core. The stator bar insertion mechanism supports a stator bar within the stator core, angularly locates a stator bar in alignment with the specific stator core slot, and inserts the stator bar into the specific stator core slot.

Indexing apparatus and method for installation of stator bars

A stator bar series loop connection is provided that is comprised of a solidified stator bar and a stranded stator bar disposed in a stator slot so that one of the bars is disposed as a top bar and the other of the bars is disposed as a bottom bar in the slot. A first side plate is brazed adjacent a first end thereof to a first side of an end of the solidified bar and adjacent a second end thereof to a first side of the stranded bar. Further, a second side plate is brazed adjacent a first end thereof to a second side of the end of the solidified bar and adjacent a second end thereof to a second side of the stranded bar. Accordingly, the stranded bar is series connected to the solidified bar.

The process for stator bar rewinds includes disassembly of the stator bars at the generator site, measurement of the stator bars, forwarding digital representations of the measurements to a manufacturing center and forming 3-Dimensional models of the stator bars requiring replacement and the stator. The stator bar 3D model is placed in the stator 3D model to insure accuracy of fit. Tooling and stator bar drawings are generated and sample stator bars are manufactured. 3D modeling of the manufactured sample stator bars are compared to the nominal 3D models to insure accuracy. The replacement stator bars are manufactured and forwarded in batches for assembly into the extant generator.

Process for rapid on-demand stator rewinds in electrical generators

A binary gas analyzer instrument and analysis method for determining percent composition of a cooling gas within a turbine generator is disclosed. The instrument includes a measurement block having a plurality of cells therein, some of which comprise sealed cells containing a known reference gas. One of the cells comprises a measurement cell and contains the binary gas mixture to be evaluated. Each of the cells contains a thermistor and a heater is provided for keeping the cells at a substantially constant temperature. An electric current supply provides a constant current to each thermistor for selfheating, and the gas within each cell conducts heat away from the thermistor at a distinctive rate. Measuring apparatus is selectably connectable across each cell thermistor to measure the voltage drop across said thermistors, and computational apparatus is provided to automatically translate the measured voltage drop across the measurement cell thermistor into a percent compositional reading of the binary gas constituents. Translation is accomplished by the computational apparatus with reference to the voltage drop across at least one of the reference cell thermistors.
