System and methods for storing streamed media data to memory for future playback are provided. A device may stream media data associated with a movie over a network connection. The data streamed to the device will be saved to device memory and will then be playable offline. A manifest associated with the media data will be downloaded to the device and modified to reflect the location of the locally stored media data. During subsequent playback of the media data, the manifest will indicate that at least a portion of the media data exists in local memory. Some portions of the media data not stored locally may be subsequently retrieved from a remote source. The stored data may be updated or added to as necessary.

Some embodiments provide a video recording device for capturing a video clip. The video recording device receives a selection of a non-temporally compressed encoding scheme from several different encoding schemes for encoding the video clip. The different encoding schemes include at least one temporally compressed encoding scheme and at least the selected non-temporally compressed encoding scheme. The video recording device captures the video clip as several frames. The video recording device non-temporally encodes each of the frames as several slices. The slices of a particular frame are for decoding by several processing units of a video decoding device. The video recording device stores the video clip in a storage.

Video format for digital video recorder

A perimeter around a detected object in a frame of image data can be generated in a first coordinate system. The perimeter can be converted from the first coordinate system into a second coordinate system having the same aspect ratio as the first coordinate system. A first metadata entry can include dimensions of image data in the second coordinate system. A second metadata entry can provide a location and dimensions of the converted perimeter in the second coordinate space. Additional metadata can indicate matching objects between frames, position of an object relative to other objects in a frame, a probability that an object is correctly detected, and a total number of objects detected across multiple frames of image data.

Some embodiments provide a video camera. The video camera includes image sensing circuitry for capturing a sequence of video pictures, a user interface for allowing a user to select a video encoding format from a temporally compressed encoding format and non-temporally compressed encoding format, encoding circuitry for encoding the video pictures according to the format selected by the user, and random access storage for storing video clips. Some embodiments provide a video editing application for a computer. The application includes a first module for (i) receiving video clips stored on the video camera and (ii) storing a first set of video clips that are non-temporally compressed on the video camera in a storage of the computer, and a second module for (i) transcoding a second set of video clips that are temporally compressed on the video camera and (ii) storing the transcoded second set of video clips in the storage.
