A method of operating a surgical instrument includes clamping tissue with a surgical instrument end effector and actuating the end effector to drive staples into the clamped tissue, including a first longitudinal row having at least one first formed staple with a first formed shape in which the first legs are aligned laterally with each other and with the first crown; a second longitudinal row having at least one second formed staple with a second formed shape in which each second leg is skewed laterally away from the second crown at a first angle; and a third longitudinal row of third formed staples having at least one third formed staple with a third formed shape in which each third leg is skewed laterally away from the third crown at a second angle.

Method of surgical stapling

A surgical system is for use in a surgical procedure. The surgical system includes a surgical instrument configured to treat tissue in the surgical procedure; an imaging device; a display configured to show a livestream of a surgical field of the surgical procedure, wherein the livestream is captured by the imaging device; and a control module. The control module is configured to detect a surgical risk; assign a display priority to the surgical risk; and determine a display arrangement of the surgical risk based on the display priority, wherein the display arrangement comprises overlaying an alert feature on the livestream.

A surgical system is disclosed including an imaging device, a display, and a control system operably coupled to the imaging device and the display. The display is configured to show a livestream of a surgical field of a surgical procedure. The livestream is captured by the imaging device. The control system is configured to overlay, on the livestream, a first amount of information associated with the surgical procedure, detect an event configured to cause the first amount of information being overlaid to increase to a second amount of information being overlaid, compare the second amount of information to a distraction threshold, adjust the second amount of information to a third amount of information based on the comparison, and overlay, on the livestream, the third amount of information based on the second amount of information being adjusted. The third amount of information is less than the distraction threshold.

Systems and methods for controlling surgical data overlay

A surgical instrument operable to sever tissue includes a body assembly and a selectively coupleable end effector assembly. The end effector assembly may include a transmission assembly and an end effector. The body assembly includes a trigger and a casing configured to couple with the transmission assembly. An information transmission system transmits instrument information received from a sensor, for example, to a secure server via a secure gateway connected to the instrument. The instrument may be previously tested on a calibration kit to pre-determine and load surgeon-specific settings onto the instrument prior to use.

A stapling assembly for a surgical instrument includes a body extending along a longitudinal axis and having an upper deck, a plurality of pockets extending through the upper deck for receiving respective staples and arranged in at least two longitudinal rows, a plurality of staple drivers, and a staple driver actuator. The stapling assembly also includes a plurality of pocket extenders extending upwardly from the upper deck. Each pocket extender has a respective top surface. The stapling assembly further includes at least one upwardly-facing surface configured to contact an adhesive of an adjunct for securing the adjunct to the stapling assembly. The at least one upwardly-facing surface is disposed at least partially between at least a portion of the upper deck and the top surfaces of the plurality of pocket extenders, and spans laterally at least partially across at least two longitudinal rows of the plurality of pockets.

Aspects of the present disclosure include control systems of an electrosurgical system for managing the flow of fluid, such as saline, and rates of aspiration or suction, in response to various states of conditions at a surgical site. The control system(s) may monitor and adjust to impedance at the surgical site, temperature of the surgical tissue, and/or RF current of electrodes, and may account for certain undesirable conditions, such as the electrodes sticking. The control systems may include various automatic sensing scenarios, while also allowing for several manual conditions.

The present disclosure provides a circular stapler. The circular stapler includes a stapling head assembly. A trocar is positioned at least partially within the stapling head assembly. An anvil is detachably attachable to the trocar. A knob rotatable to cause translation of the trocar to adjust a position of the anvil with respect to the stapling head assembly. One or more sensors are configured to generate data associated with a trocar position or an anvil state. A communication element is configured to provide the generated data to a hub, wherein the hub is configured to provide an indicator associated with the trocar position or the anvil state based on the generated data.

The augmented reality display on the display device may include virtual objects based on the imaging data, the device-dependent data, the functional role of the member of the surgical team, and a surgical activity by the member of the surgical team. An interactive surgical system may implement this method.

Customization of overlaid data and configuration

An augmented reality display system and method for use during a surgical procedure are disclosed. An imaging device captures a real image of a surgical area during the surgical procedure generates a first data feed. A sensor device generates a second data feed. An augmented reality device including an augmented reality display generates an augmented overlay based on the first and second data feeds. The augmented overlay includes a visual portion and a non-visual visual portion. A processor receives the first and second data feeds and combines the first and second data feeds to generate the augmented overlay.

Mixed reality feedback systems that cooperate to increase efficient perception of complex data feeds

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for displaying a cooperative overlays based on interacting instruments are disclosed herein. In one aspect, a method for displaying cooperative overlays includes communicatively coupling a first augmented reality display device to a surgical hub; generating, by the first augmented reality display device, a first intraoperative display of a surgical field; displaying, by the first intraoperative display, a first data overlay based on operation of a first surgical instrument; interacting the first surgical instrument with a second surgical instrument; and displaying, by the first intraoperative display, an indicator of the interaction based on the interaction between the first and second surgical instruments.

A method of creating an anastomosis is provided using a stapling assembly including a body extending distally along a longitudinal axis and a deck member defining a deck surface. The deck surface includes a first array of staple openings comprising a herringbone pattern, and each staple opening of the first array of staple openings has a same size. The method includes positioning an anvil within a first lumen of a patient and positioning the stapling assembly within a second lumen of the patient. The method also includes releasably coupling the anvil with the stapling assembly and compressing tissue of the first and second lumens between the anvil and the deck member. The method further includes actuating a plurality of staple drivers to drive a first plurality of staples distally and parallel to the longitudinal axis from the first array of staple openings into the tissue to define the anastomosis.

The torque transfer assembly is configured to transfer a predetermined range of torque from the shroud to the waveguide to thereby couple the waveguide with the transducer assembly. The torque transfer assembly is further configured to prevent transfer of torque from the shroud to the waveguide beyond an upper limit of the predetermined range.
