A stapling assembly for a surgical instrument includes a body extending along a longitudinal axis and having an upper deck, a plurality of pockets extending through the upper deck for receiving respective staples and arranged in at least two longitudinal rows, a plurality of staple drivers, and a staple driver actuator. The stapling assembly also includes a plurality of pocket extenders extending upwardly from the upper deck. Each pocket extender has a respective top surface. The stapling assembly further includes at least one upwardly-facing surface configured to contact an adhesive of an adjunct for securing the adjunct to the stapling assembly. The at least one upwardly-facing surface is disposed at least partially between at least a portion of the upper deck and the top surfaces of the plurality of pocket extenders, and spans laterally at least partially across at least two longitudinal rows of the plurality of pockets.

Aspects of the present disclosure include control systems of an electrosurgical system for managing the flow of fluid, such as saline, and rates of aspiration or suction, in response to various states of conditions at a surgical site. The control system(s) may monitor and adjust to impedance at the surgical site, temperature of the surgical tissue, and/or RF current of electrodes, and may account for certain undesirable conditions, such as the electrodes sticking. The control systems may include various automatic sensing scenarios, while also allowing for several manual conditions.

The present disclosure provides a circular stapler. The circular stapler includes a stapling head assembly. A trocar is positioned at least partially within the stapling head assembly. An anvil is detachably attachable to the trocar. A knob rotatable to cause translation of the trocar to adjust a position of the anvil with respect to the stapling head assembly. One or more sensors are configured to generate data associated with a trocar position or an anvil state. A communication element is configured to provide the generated data to a hub, wherein the hub is configured to provide an indicator associated with the trocar position or the anvil state based on the generated data.

A method of distributing data among members of a surgical team may include receiving imaging data, by a modular control tower, from a plurality of imaging devices, receiving device-dependent data, by the modular control tower, from each of a plurality of intelligent surgical instruments, associating, by the modular control tower, a display device with a member of the surgical team, defining, by the modular control tower, a functional role for the member of the surgical team, and displaying, by the modular control tower, a augmented reality display by the display device. An interactive surgical system may implement this method.

Customization of overlaid data and configuration

An augmented reality display system and method for use during a surgical procedure are disclosed. An imaging device captures a real image of a surgical area during the surgical procedure generates a first data feed. A sensor device generates a second data feed. An augmented reality device including an augmented reality display generates an augmented overlay based on the first and second data feeds. The augmented overlay includes a visual portion and a non-visual visual portion. A processor receives the first and second data feeds and combines the first and second data feeds to generate the augmented overlay.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for displaying a cooperative overlays based on interacting instruments are disclosed herein. In one aspect, a method for displaying cooperative overlays includes communicatively coupling a first augmented reality display device to a surgical hub; generating, by the first augmented reality display device, a first intraoperative display of a surgical field; displaying, by the first intraoperative display, a first data overlay based on operation of a first surgical instrument; interacting the first surgical instrument with a second surgical instrument; and displaying, by the first intraoperative display, an indicator of the interaction based on the interaction between the first and second surgical instruments.

A method of creating an anastomosis is provided using a stapling assembly including a body extending distally along a longitudinal axis and a deck member defining a deck surface. The deck surface includes a first array of staple openings comprising a herringbone pattern, and each staple opening of the first array of staple openings has a same size. The method includes positioning an anvil within a first lumen of a patient and positioning the stapling assembly within a second lumen of the patient. The method also includes releasably coupling the anvil with the stapling assembly and compressing tissue of the first and second lumens between the anvil and the deck member. The method further includes actuating a plurality of staple drivers to drive a first plurality of staples distally and parallel to the longitudinal axis from the first array of staple openings into the tissue to define the anastomosis.

The shaft assembly comprises an ultrasonic waveguide, a sheath, a shroud, and a torque transfer assembly. The waveguide is configured to couple with the transducer assembly. The waveguide is disposed within the sheath. The sheath extends through the shroud. The torque transfer assembly is contained within the shroud. The torque transfer assembly is configured to transfer a predetermined range of torque from the shroud to the waveguide to thereby couple the waveguide with the transducer assembly. The torque transfer assembly is further configured to prevent transfer of torque from the shroud to the waveguide beyond an upper limit of the predetermined range.

Systems, methods and devices for initiating pairing of wireless surgical instruments to a modular energy system are disclosed herein. In various aspects, a modular energy system includes an a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader that is configured to read an RFID card that is uniquely associated with a surgical instrument. When the RFID reader reads the RFID card, the RFID reader initiates a wireless pairing process with the surgical instrument. Initiating the wireless pairing process may include causing the module energy system to wirelessly search for the surgical instrument and causing a display screen to display instructions for wirelessly pairing the surgical instrument.

An interactive control unit is disclosed. The interactive control unit includes an interactive touchscreen display, an interface configured to couple the control unit to a surgical hub, a processor, and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor to receive input commands from the interactive touchscreen display located inside a sterile field and transmit the input commands to the surgical hub to control devices coupled to the surgical hub located outside the sterile field.
