Systems and methods for improving radiographic scanning. In an example, the technology relates to a system for performing radiographic scanning. The system includes a photon source configured to emit photons. The system also includes a photon counting detector for detecting photons emitted from the photon source after passing through a target. The photon counting detector comprising first pixels having a first size and second pixels having a second size, and the first size is greater than the second size.

Photon flux modulation to improve dynamic range in photon counting detectors

While performing a tomosynthesis procedure, the breast of a patient is compressed between two compression elements to create an imaging condition. Foam is secured to the rigid substrate of a one of the compression elements. The patient's chest wall is aligned with the leading edge surface of the foam. The inner side of the breast is disposed proximate the lateral edge surface of the foam and the outer side of the breast is disposed proximate the outer lateral edge surface of the foam. A mid-plane is disposed between the inner and outer lateral edge surfaces of the foam. An interface connects a leading edge surface of the foam and compressive surfaces. A portion of the leading edge surface which is aligned with the mid-plane is incompletely compressed.

The plurality of specimen exposure windows have a total exposure time period that satisfies a desired exposure time. Systems and methods for mitigating imaging artifacts

Methods and devices for tracking an x-ray tube focal spot position are described. As successive images are captured by an image capturing system that includes the x-ray tube, the focal spot may change position. To track the change, one or more artificial targets may be arranged relative to the image capturing system such that an initial image is received that includes the artificial targets at a first position in the initial image. A gain map may be generated based on the initial image, and applied to a subsequent image received that also includes the artificial targets to generate a normalized subsequent image. A shift of the artificial targets from the first position in the initial image to a second position in the normalized subsequent image may be identified, where the shift corresponds to the focal spot's position change. Mathematical and/or physical adjustments may be made to correct for the change.

System and method for tracking x-ray tube focal spot position

Methods and systems for imaging anatomical portions of a patient. A method includes moving a radiation source and a detector at least partially around a longitudinal axis of the patient, emitting radiation at a first energy level at a first angle around a longitudinal axis of the patient, wherein the first energy level is a predetermined energy level for a first anatomical target, detecting the radiation emitted at the first energy level, emitting radiation at a second energy level at second angle around the longitudinal axis of the patient, wherein the second energy level is a predetermined energy level for a second anatomical target; and detecting the radiation emitted at the second energy level. The method may be performed with a standing CT machine.

Computed tomography system for imaging multiple anatomical targets

A flat panel x-ray imager exhibiting reduced ghosting effects and overvoltage protection by appropriate leakage current characteristics of the thin-film transistor array. A top electrode of a suitable material is directly on an amorphous selenium-based charge generator layer allowing charge transport across the layer, thereby reducing ghosting. Alternatively, a non-insulating organic layer may be between the top electrode and the charge generating layer. The thin-film transistors have leakage current that rises relatively slowly with voltage across the transistor within a range that matches exposure through an object being imaged but rises at a sufficiently higher rate within a higher range to provide protection even when a corresponding region of the charge generator layer receives greater amounts of x-rays. A voltage is applied to the top electrode. This voltage may be within the range of 500 V to 2,000 V.
