Disclosed is the use of a laminate of a textile material covered with a copolyetherester film having a water vapor transmission rate of at least 1000 g/m.sup.2 /day for the manufacture therefrom of waterproof rainwear, shoes, tents, and mattress covers, and for the complete covering therewith of molded articles of foam rubber for use in chairs or mattresses, the copolyetherester being composed of a plurality of recurrent intralinear long-chain ester units and short-chain ester units which are randomly joined head-to-tail through ester bonds, with at least 20 wt. % of the long-chain ester units being prepared from a long-chain glycol having a carbon to oxygen ratio in the range of 2.0 to 2.4, which glycol constitutes 15-45 wt. % of the copolyetherester, and with at least 70 wt. % of the short-chain ester units consisting of butylene naphthalate units constituting 20-80 wt. % of the copolyetherester. Compared with the known polyetherester-textile laminates, the claimed laminates exhibit surprisingly low permanent plastic deformation.

Waterproof, breathable rainwear and waterproof articles of foam plastic

Absorbent sanitary products, such as diapers, pads, or sanitary napkins, comprising a copolyether ester film having a water permeability of at most 0.02 g/cm.sup.2 /h at 23.degree. C. and 0.07 bar and a water vapor permeability of at least 500 g/m.sup.2 /day at 23.degree. C. and 100-50% relative humidity, a liquid-permeable layer, and a liquid-absorbing bibulous layer. The copolyether ester of the film contains 5-55 weight % of long-chain glycols having a molecular weight of 800-6000 with an atomic ratio of carbon to oxygen of 2.0 to 3.7 %. The film is made from copolyether ester chips which in water at 23.degree. C. have a water absorption of at most 15 weight %.

Absorbent sanitary products

Wound covering material which is impermeable to bacteria and viruses, permeable to water vapor, pressure-sensitive and antiseptic. It comprises a backing and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer containing as a glue an acrylate ester copolymer containing hydrophilic groups and/or a mixture of polyvinylmethyl and/or polyvinylethyl ethers. The backing layer is composed of a film of a segmented copolyether ester comprising 40-85% by weight of short-chain ester units, mainly based on 1,4-butylene glycol terephthalate, and long-chain ester units derived from a glycol having a molecular weight of 800 to 6000 and an atomic ratio of carbon to oxygen between 2.0 and 4.3, provided that at least 15% by weight and not more than 40% by weight of the long-chain ester units have an atomic ratio of carbon to oxygen between 2.0 and 2.4. The backing layer contains 1 to 15% by weight of iodine or 0.1 to 8% by weight of 1,6-bis(4-chlorophenyl-diguanido)hexane (i.e. chlorhexidene), calculated on the weight of the copolyetherester. The water vapor permeability of the backing and the adhesive layer together is at least 400 g/m.sup.2 /24 hours in accordance with ASTM/-E96-66 [Procedure B; measured at 30.degree. C. and a .DELTA.RH of 50%].

Watervapor-permeable, pressure sensitive, antiseptic wound covering

A packaging film which is permeable to smoke constituents is made from a thermoplastic copolyester. The copolyester is built up of recurrent long-chain and short-chain ester units which are joined head-to-tail through ester bonds, the long-chain ester units corresponding to the formula ##STR1## and the short-chain ester units to the formula: ##STR2## where R.sub.1 is a divalent radical remaining after removal of the terminal hydroxyl groups from a poly(alkylene oxide) glycol having a molecular weight in the range of 600 to 6000 and a carbon to oxygen ratio of 2.0 to 2.7; R.sub.2 is a divalent radical remaining after removal of the hydroxyl groups from a diol having a molecular weight not higher than 250; R.sub.3 is a divalent radical remaining after removal of the carboxylic acid groups from a dicarboxylic acid. Said long-chain ester units amount to 20 to 60% by weight of the copolyester and at least 70% of the R.sub.3 groups are 1,4-phenylene radicals. The phenol number of the film, expressed in mg per m.sup.2, is at least 20. The film is particularly suitable for packaging foodstuffs that are smoked in the packaged state, such as smoked sausages.

Packaged smoked foodstuff

A packaging film which is permeable to smoke constituents is made from a thermoplastic copolyester. The copolyester is built up of recurrent long-chain and short-chain ester units which are joined head-to-tail through ester bonds, the long-chain ester units corresponding to the formula ##STR1## and the short-chain ester units to the formula: ##STR2## where R.sub.1 is a divalent radical remaining after removal of the terminal hydroxyl groups from a poly(alkylene oxide) glycol having a molecular weight in the range of 600 to 6000 and a carbon to oxygen ratio of 2,0 to 2,7; R.sub.2 is a divalent radical remaining after removal of the hydroxyl groups from a diol having a molecular weight not higher than 250; R.sub.3 is a divalent radical remaining after removal of the carboxylic acid groups from a dicarboxylic acid. Said long-chain ester units amount to 20 to 60% by weight of the copolyester and at least 70% of the R.sub.3 groups are 1,4-phenylene radicals. The phenol number of the film, expressed in mg per m.sup.2, is at least 20. The film is particularly suitable for packaging foodstuffs that are smoked in the packaged state, such as smoked sausages.

Packaging film permeable to smoke constituents and packaged smoked

Flexible layered product for use in waterproof garments or tents of a textile material covered with a waterproof material having a water vapor transmission rate of at least 1000 g/m.sup.2 day, the textile material being covered with a film of a copolyether ester consisting of a plurality of recurrent intralinear long-chain ester units and short-chain ester units which are randomly joined head-to-tail through ester bonds.
