The present invention relates to a device and method for determining the pollution status of a particle filter () for an air-cleaning device () with increased accuracy at low extra costs. The device comprises a sheet resistance input () for obtaining sheet resistance information () indicating or allowing to determine an electrical sheet resistance of the particle filter (); a humidity input () for obtaining humidity information () indicating the relative humidity of the filter's environment; and a processor () for comparing the electrical sheet resistance indicated by or determined from the obtained sheet resistance information () with a reference sheet resistance of a clean particle filter at the relative humidity () indicated by the obtained humidity information and given at the time of acquisition of said electrical sheet resistance and for generating, based on said comparison, a control signal () for control of the air-cleaning device and/or a status information () indicating the pollution status of the particle filter ().

Device and method for determining the pollution status of a particle filter in an air-cleaning device

A ventilation unit is for ventilating an indoor space, and incorporates an air cleaning device and mechanical restrictor for controlling a restriction to a flow resulting from a pressure differential across the unit. There is determination of the inside and outside air pressures in the vicinity of the unit and of air quality parameters inside and outside. The air cleaning device and the mechanical restrictor are controlled in dependence on the determined air pressures and air quality parameters. This provides a fan-less, and hence low-power ventilation unit, which relies on throttling the natural air flow across the unit to provide flow control, and hence enable control of air quality. The air cleaning device may be operated only when the flow is into the inside space, saving power.

Ventilation unit, system and method

An electrostatic air cleaning device comprises a particle charging section, a particle precipitation section, a current sensor for measuring an electric current flowing through electrode plates of the precipitation section and a relative humidity sensor. The voltage applied to the electrode plates and the air flow through the device are controlled in dependence on the measured current flowing through the electrode plates. In this way, control is provided to prevent excessive electric leakage currents inside the precipitation section, that may lead to a hazard, and to optimize the energy efficiency of the cleaning device in relation to its cleaning performance. The relative humidity information also enables diagnosis of the cause of the high leakage current and the status of the precipitation section concerning the amount of precipitated particles therein.

Electrostatic particle filtering

A method and system for determining an amount of risk an air pollutant poses to a subject. A risk level is calculated by determining a dosage of the air pollutant, received by the subject over a predetermined period of time, and obtaining historic information about historic dosages of the air pollutant. The risk level is then calculated using the dosage and the historic information to thereby determine a risk level associated with the accumulated deposition of the air pollutant in the portion of the subject's respiratory tract.

The invention describes a laser sensor module () for detecting ultra-fine particles () with a particle size of 300 nm or less, more preferably 200 nm or less, most preferably 100 nm or less, the laser sensor module () comprising: &#x2014;at least one laser () being adapted to emit laser light to at least one focus region in reaction to signals provided by at least one electrical driver (), &#x2014;at least one detector () being adapted to determine a self-mixing interference signal of an optical wave within a laser cavity of the at least one laser (), wherein the self-mixing interference signal is caused by reflected laser light reentering the laser cavity, the reflected laser light being reflected by a particle receiving at least a part of the laser light, &#x2014;the laser sensor module () being arranged to perform at least one self-mixing interference measurement, &#x2014;the laser sensor module () being adapted to determine a first particle size distribution function with a first sensitivity by means of at least one measurement result determined based on the at least one self-mixing interference measurement, the laser sensor module being further adapted to determine a second particle size distribution function with the second sensitivity, the second sensitivity being different from the first sensitivity, &#x2014;the at least one evaluator () being adapted to determine a particle measure of the particle size of 300 nm or less by subtracting the second particle size distribution function multiplied with a calibration factor q from the first particle size distribution function. The invention further describes a corresponding method and computer program product. The invention enables a simple and low-cost particle detection module or particle detector based on laser self-mixing interference which can detect particles with a size of 100 nm or even less.

Laser sensor for particle density detection

A particle sensing system is for sensing particles entrained in a fluid. The system comprises a flow channel having a longitudinal direction along which the fluid is to be passed, a heating arrangement for heating the fluid and thereby applying a positive thermophoretic force on the fluid in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the flow channel and a first sensor for sensing the particles in the fluid after heating by the heating arrangement. The thermophoretic force increases the concentration of the particles at the first sensor.

Particle sensor and particle sensing method

One or both is controlled (), or else sensor information is interpreted, in dependence on activity status information received from a plurality of home appliances (). In various embodiments, an air quality-monitoring system () may include at least one sensor () configured to detect operation of a mechanism () within or at a boundary of an indoor environment. The mechanism may be external to an air purifier () associated with the indoor environment. Direct photon conversion detector

A capture device for capturing a target gas from a gas flow is disclosed that can be continuously used without requiring consumption of target gas binding salts. To this end, the device is arranged to generate separate acidic and alkaline streams of fluid by electrolyzing water, binding the target gas to the hydroxide ions in the alkaline fluid stream or the hydronium ions in the acidic stream, and recombining the generated streams to release the bound target gas and regenerating part of the electrolyzed water for further electrolysis. Such a capture device may for instance be used in a gas purification system, e.g. an air purification system for controlling target gas levels in a confined space such as a vehicle cabin, domestic dwelling or office space, a target gas generation system or a target gas enrichment system, e.g. for creating target gas-rich air for horticultural purposes.
