The invention relates to an ink jet printer having a print carriage, a curing unit and a holder arranged to move a recording medium relative to the carriage assembly in a sub-scanning direction, wherein the print carriage is movable in a main scanning direction normal to the sub-scanning direction, and a print head unit arranged on the print carriage for printing a swath of an image onto the recording medium in each scan pass of the print carriage, the print carriage further having a mirror assembly arranged to deflect light from the curing unit onto an exposure area on the printed swath.

A method is provided for forming an image on a recording medium in a printer, the printer comprising a print head assembly for applying a curable ink on a recording medium to form the image, a transport path arranged for moving the recording medium in a transport direction along the print head assembly and a curing system; said curing system comprising a curing source, which curing source is arranged extending over the transport path in the transverse direction; the method comprising the steps of: moving the recording medium through the transport path in a step-wise movement in the transport direction along the print head assembly and the curing system; applying the curable ink on the recording medium by the print head assembly to form the image; and curing the curable ink, which is applied on the recording medium, by the curing source in a curing zone on the recording medium, the curing zone extending over the transport path in a transverse direction, the transverse direction being substantially perpendicular to the transport direction; wherein the curing step comprises moving the curing zone along the transport direction through the transport path in response to the step-wise movement of the recording medium.

A heat exchange unit and a printing system containing the heat exchange unit, including a heat exchange region, a first print media transport path configured for transporting in operation a first print medium from a supply through the heat exchange, the heat exchange unit further containing a stationary heat exchange member, having a first side facing said first print media transport path and a second opposite side facing said second print media transport path, wherein, in operation, the second print medium is at an elevated temperature with respect to the first print medium and wherein, the first and second print medium have a heat exchange contact in the heat exchange region.
