A dual hoist crane is provided with a heave compensation system that can be used for both the main and for the auxiliary hoisting assembly. The heave compensation system includes a first set of sheaves for guiding the main hoisting cable and a second set of sheaves for guiding the auxiliary hoisting cable. The heave compensation system is configured to individually lock the first set of sheaves and the second set of sheaves to a heave compensation cylinder, for respectively providing the main hoisting assembly and the auxiliary hoisting assembly with heave compensation.

Heave compensated dual hoist crane

A system comprising a crane and an exchangeable tool. The crane and the tool respectively comprise an upper tool connector with tool retainers and a lower tool connector which can be interconnected, e.g. a male and female connector, e.g. the lower tool connector of the tool being embodied as a shank provided with a shoulder and the upper tool connector as a tool clamp with a female, open-centered body. A tool suspension device comprises the upper tool connector. a travelling block member. The tool clamp has multiple mobile tool retainers adapted to—in a non-operative position—allow introduction of the shank of the tool from below into the shank receiving passage and—in an operative position—engage below the shoulder of the shank that has been introduced into the passage so as to suspend the tool. The upper tool connector may comprise a bearing allowing for swivelling of the open-centered body, and e.g. a rotational drive operative between the clamp housing and the female, open-centered body to actively drive said swivelling.

System of a crane and an exchangeable tool

A crane with a pivotal boom. The crane has a first and a second main hoisting system, which main hoisting system are configured for independent operation. Each system comprises a hoisting cable, an upper sheave block, a hoisting block assembly suspended from the upper sheave block by the hoisting cable in a multiple fall configuration, and a hoisting winch. The upper sheave blocks of the first and second main hoisting systems are each independently pivotable about a common pivot axis relative to the boom. Each hoisting block assembly comprises a hoisting block body, multiple fixed sheaves that are fixed on the hoisting block body, and multiple disconnectable sheave members, each disconnectable sheave member comprising a frame and at least one sheave rotatably supported by the frame.

Crane, vessel comprising such a crane, and a method for up-ending an elongate structure

A method for handling of an offshore wind turbine component includes using a vessel having a hull on which a motion compensating crane is mounted. The crane includes a main boom; a main boom luffing assembly; a mobile hoist cable suspension member; and a hoist winch and a hoist cable driven by the hoist winch. An object suspension device is suspended from the hoist cable. The mobile hoist cable suspension member is supported by a motion compensating support device that is fitted to the tip end of the main boom, the motion compensating support device including one or more motor powered motion displacement actuator assemblies and a motion compensating support device controller. The method includes connecting the offshore wind turbine component to the object suspension device; and operating the motion compensating support device to provide motion compensation in at least one direction of the object suspension device and the connected offshore wind turbine component. The crane is provided with one or more nacelle position detectors that are configured and operated to sense at least one of actual position and actual motion of the nacelle or of one or more components in or on the nacelle, and the one or more nacelle position detectors are linked to the motion compensating support device controller.

Motion compensating crane for use on an offshore vessel

A system includes a crane and an exchangeable tool. Providing energy to an energy consuming piece of equipment and/or tool during offshore operations. Use is made of a crane including a substructure, a boom mounted on the substructure, one or more hoist winches and cables, as well as an object suspension device suspended from the boom by the cables. A piece of equipment or tool is suspended from the object suspension device. An energy storage unit is provided on the object suspension device and has an input connector. The boom may be provided with an output connector of an energy charging unit and in a lower supply position of the object suspension device it is disconnected from the input connector of the energy storage unit. The piece of equipment or tool is then run on energy supplied by the energy storage unit. Moving the object suspension device to a charging position thereof by employing the hoist assembly of the crane brings the input connector of the energy storage unit in close proximity of the output connector of the energy charging unit which are then interconnected to charge the energy storage unit from a separate energy source.

Vessel and crane for offshore operations involving energy consuming equipment or tools

A motion compensating crane for use on an offshore vessel having a hull with a design waterline, wherein the crane includes a revolving superstructure, a main boom mounted to the revolving superstructure and pivotally connected at an inner end thereof about a substantially horizontal boom pivot axis to the revolving superstructure, the main boom having a tip end remote from the inner end, a main boom luffing assembly adapted to set an angle of the main boom relative to the superstructure within a main boom working angle range, a rigid jib frame pivotally connected to the tip end of the main boom about a substantially horizontal jib frame pivot axis, and a level setting assembly adapted to set the rigid jib frame in a levelled position whilst the main boom has an angle within the main boom working angle range. The rigid jib frame is provided with a set of parallel X-direction tracks which are substantially horizontal in the levelled position of the rigid jib frame. The crane further has a mobile carrier supported by the X-direction tracks and movable by a motor powered X-motion displacement actuator assembly. The mobile carrier is provided with one or multiple parallel Y-direction tracks and a mobile jib hoist cable suspension member is supported by the one or more Y-direction tracks and movable relative thereto.

A wave-induced motion compensation crane and corresponding vessel and method are disclosed. The crane includes a motion compensation device at a tip end portion of the boom structure to compensate for X-Y wave-induced motion and a heave compensation device for Z-motion. The motion compensation device includes a moveable jib beam that extends in a substantially horizontal direction. The jib beam is slewable about a substantially vertical slew axis and translatable in a longitudinal direction of the jib beam. Preferably, the jib beam can be levelled based on the angular orientation of the boom structure.

Wave-induced motion compensating crane for use on an offshore vessel, vessel and load transferring method

A marine vessel and a method of operation of such a marine vessel include a crane with a boom including a main boom section and a jib section and a variable length stay mechanism. The lattice boom is movable from a hoisting position into a parking position by a routine including operating the variable length stay mechanism allowing the jib section to fold towards the main boom section. The crane is provided with a fixation device adapted to establish fixation of the jib section relative to the main boom section in a folded position. A boom rest is mounted on the hull. The routine further includes operating the luffing assembly to position the jib member of the folded jib section, fixated to the main boom section, in the parking position onto the boom rest.

Marine crane vessel and method of operation

A deepwater hoisting system includes a synthetic fibre rope winch assembly including a motor driven first winch and a length of synthetic fibre rope driven by said first winch. The synthetic fibre rope has an end remote from the first winch. The system further includes a steel wire winch assembly including a motor driven second winch and a length of steel wire driven by said second winch. The steel wire has an end remote from the second winch. At least the second winch is an active heave compensation motor driven winch. The system further includes a lifting block having a lifting block sheave, through which the synthetic fibre rope is run. The end of the synthetic fibre rope is connected to the end of the steel wire, so that the lifting block is suspended in a double-fall arrangement.
