A system and method for tracking an object () received within a body () using ultrasound wherein shifts in position of an ultrasound probe () tracking the object (either deliberate or accidental) can be corrected for. The method comprises tracking a position of the object through the body using an ultrasound transducer unit, and sensing movement of the ultrasound transducer unit using a physically coupled motion sensor (). From the movement of the ultrasound transducer unit, movement of its field of view () can be determined. Based on a tracked history of positions () of the object through the field of view, and on the tracked movement of the field of view relative to the body, a direction of motion of the object through the body can be derived.

An interventional device includes an elongate shaft () with a longitudinal axis (A-A'), and an ultrasound detector (). The ultrasound detector () comprises a PVDF homopolymer foil strip (). The foil strip () is wrapped around the longitudinal axis (A-A&#x2032;) of the elongate shaft () to provide a band having an axial length (L) along the longitudinal axis (A-A&#x2032;). The axial length (L) is in the range 80-120 microns.

An antifouling layer stack comprising a first layer element, a silicone layer, and a second layer element. The silicone layer is a light guide for UV radiation, and may include embedded UV light sources. The first layer element is situated on a first surface of the silicone layer, and the second layer element is situated on a second surface of the silicone layer. The first and second layer elements differ in composition from the silicone layer. The first layer element facilitates transmission of the UV radiation from the silicone layer to an external medium, and may provide protection and improve the structural integrity of the stack. The second layer element may also provide protection and structural integrity. The second layer element may be reflective, and may provide an adhesive surface for attaching the stack to a vessel.

Light guides with coating for use in water

An interventional device includes an elongate shaft and a transducer strip. The transducer strip includes a first edge and an opposing second edge. The first edge and the second edge are separated by a width dimension, and the first edge and the second edge each extend along a length direction of the transducer strip. The transducer strip also includes a piezoelectric transducer that extends along a transducer direction that forms an acute angle with respect to the length direction. The transducer strip is wrapped in the form of a spiral around the elongate shaft of the interventional device such that the piezoelectric transducer forms a band around the elongate shaft. The width dimension is defined such that the adjacent first and second edges of consecutive turns of the spiral abut or overlap one another.

An electric current supply system () is designed to be at least partially submerged in an electrically conductive liquid during operation thereof, and having at least one electrically conductive component () enveloped in liquid-tight material (). The component () has a sacrificial material that is capable of reacting electrochemically with the liquid. Further, the component () has at least one gas trap portion () at which the sacrificial material occupies a space in the liquid-tight material () that is thereby defined with a gas trapping shape. If, in case of damage to the system () in an actual submerged state thereof, the component () gets exposed to the liquid, it is achieved that an electrochemical reaction occurring at the exposed area of the component () and an outflow of electric current to the liquid are stopped.

An assembly () which is intended for use at an area () for allowing a fluid to pass therethrough comprises a filter () for blocking items from passing through the area () along with the fluid, and at least one anti-biofouling source () for emitting ultraviolet light during operation thereof for realizing anti-biofouling of at least a portion of the filter (). The filter () comprises a filter body provided with apertures, wherein the actual filter body is at least partially transparent to the ultraviolet light, so that anti-biofouling of the entire filter () may be guaranteed, even in case the anti-biofouling source () is positioned at only one side () of the filter () and/or is integrated in the filter ().

The invention provides an element comprising: an electrical component, an optical medium comprising medium material comprising a silicone transmissive for one or more of UV radiation and visible radiation, wherein the electrical component is embedded in the optical medium, an electrical connector for functionally coupling the electrical component external to the optical medium, wherein the electrical connector is embedded in the optical medium over at least part of its length; and a water barrier at least partly embedded in the optical medium and configured to enclose at least part of the electrical connector.

The invention relates to a transfer stack (TS) for transferring a portion of a foil within a perimeter (P) that includes a transducer (T) to an article (A) such as a medical device or a medical needle. The transfer stack includes a carrier substrate (CS), a foil (F) having a transducer (T) incorporated therein, and the transducer is laterally surrounded by a perimeter (P). The foil (F) is separable from the carrier substrate (CS) by overcoming a first peel retaining force (PRF). An adhesive layer (AL) is also attached to the foil. The adhesive layer (AL) is configured to provide adhesion between the foil (F) and an article (A) such that when the article (A) is attached to the foil via the adhesive layer (AL) the foil (F) is separable from the surface of the article (A) by overcoming a second peel retaining force (PRF). The second peel retaining force (PRF) is greater than the first peel retaining force (PRF).

By applying such coating staining of the medical equipment by iodine-containing agents is prevented. The sol-gel coating can be cured at a curing temperature of 80&#xb0; C. or lower.
