Method for localizing a wireless node in a wireless sensor network, and wireless node using the method. The method includes sending a chirp spread spectrum signal with a carrier frequency from a first wireless node (A) to a second wireless node (B), the second wireless node (B) including a plurality of antennas; receiving the chirp spread spectrum signal at the plurality of antennas; executing time-of-arrival ranging between the first and second wireless nodes (A, B) for determining a distance between the first and second wireless nodes (A, B); and detecting a relative phase shift of the received chirp spread spectrum signal at each of the plurality of antennas of the second wireless node (B) and determining a direction of the first wireless sensor node (A) with respect to the second wireless sensor node (B) from the detected relative phase shift.

Method for determining an arrival time of a RF ranging signal at a ranging receiver, comprising receiving at least one RF ranging signal via a plurality of antennas comprised by the ranging receiver, providing a plurality of antenna signals, each comprising at least a section of the ranging signal as received either by a respective one of the antennas or by a linear combination of at least two of the antennas, determining respective candidate arrival times of the at least one ranging signal from at least two of the antenna signals and determining the arrival time of the at least one ranging signal as the earliest candidate arrival time.

Ranging diversity-reception method and receiver

A receiver and method for receiving symbols having a symbol period with duration SP comprising. N antenna signals are selected equally in time over a symbol period to obtain a combined antenna signal. An autocorrelation is performed on the combined antenna signal to obtain a combined signal. The combined signal is split into the corresponding antenna signal parts and subjected to an integration function. The output of the integration function is used the select the antenna signal with the best signal quality. The invention enables to perform an efficient antenna diversity circuit, which can partially be used for simultaneously preamble detection and frequency offset estimation.
