A fabric structure () having a cellular construction. The fabric structure comprises at least one base layer () consisting of warp threads (), at least one top layer () consisting of warp threads () and weft threads () placed in between, wherein the fabric structure () is formed by a multiplicity of three-dimensional cells () and the height () of each individual cell () is defined by the spacing () between two warp threads (), located above the other in height direction z, in adjacent layers (), the length () of the cell () is defined by the spacing () between two warp threads () or () adjacent in the weft direction x, in one layer () and the width () of a cell () is defined by the extent () of the weft thread course in the warp direction y and/or the spacing () between the two weft threads () that are opposite in the warp direction y and adjacent to the particular cell ().
