Methods and devices configured to perform wireless communications, the methods and devices configured to monitor a frequency band for one or more other Radio Access Technologies (RATs); determine one or more periods of a reduced interference with the one or more other RATs in one or more frequencies of the monitored frequency band; and communicate a first signal during the one or more periods in the more or more frequencies, and communicate a second signal in the frequency band based on the communication of the first signal.

Methods and devices for device-to-device communications

A method calibrates a spread spectrum receiver having a received signal strength below a noise floor. The method includes estimating an input noise power, and measuring a noise power output from the receiver. The method also includes comparing the estimated input noise power with the measured output noise power to determine at least one calibration value. The method further includes calibrating the receiver based upon the at least one calibration value.

A discontinuous receiver is used to detect and read network messages and report the messages to the computer within the WCDMA enabled user equipment device. The computer then activates functions previously powered down to receive incoming messages for the user of the device. The discontinuous receiver is also used when the device is active to read network messages, freeing a modem of the device to operate on user messaging; and therefore, enhancing user related performance.

A system and method are disclosed for transmitting and receiving signals. The method includes receiving a received signal; demodulating the received signal by mixing the received signal with a receiver local oscillator signal generated by a voltage controlled oscillator configured to generate the receiver local oscillator signal; switching the configuration of the voltage controlled oscillator to generate a transmission signal for use by a transmitter; and transmitting a modulated signal derived from the transmission signal.

Methods and apparatus for determining an available FM frequency channel for interfacing with FM modulated output signals from a wireless device are described herein. A SPS receiver, such as a GPS receiver, can determine its position based on conventional techniques. The SPS receiver can determine one or more available FM channels over which audio output may be transmitted. The SPS receiver can use the determined position to access a local data base of available channels. Alternatively, the SPS receiver can use the determined position to access a local database of allocated channels in order to determine one or more available channels. The SPS receiver may display a prompt or message that indicates an FM channel over which output audio is modulated.
