Ways to produce a container () having a shaped tail () are provided that include blow molding a precursor having a tail () and shaping the tail () to form the shaped tail (). Various types of blow molding can employ various types of precursors having tails (). Injection blow molding can be used where a preform () having a tail () is optionally longitudinally stretched and is expanded with a gas or a liquid. Extrusion blow molding can be used where a parison () having a tail () is expanded. A tail () shaping means can be part of the blow molding process or can be employed after the container () is produced from the precursor having the tail (). The shaped tail () can impart functionality to the container (), including where the tail () is shaped into a coupling point that can serve as an attachment point, hanging point, or hook, for example.

Method of forming a container having a hanging implement

Systems and methods for making a reduced material container are provided that hold a preform adjacent to an open end of the preform, stretch the preform, close a mold about the stretched preform to form a truncated preform, and introduce a pressurized fluid into the truncated preform to expand the truncated preform and form the reduced material container. A stretch rod can be inserted into the preform to mechanically stretching the preform. The mold accepts the preform at a first end thereof, has an open state and a closed state, and the closed state forms a cavity defining an internal surface having a second end located remotely from the first end. A first length is defined by a distance between the first end and the second end, the stretch rod mechanically stretching the preform to a second length, the second length being greater than the first length.

Reduced material container and method of forming same

Systems and methods for making a reduced material container () are provided that hold a preform () adjacent to an open end () of the preform (), stretch the preform (), close a mold () about the stretched preform () to form a truncated preform (), and introduce a pressurized fluid () into the truncated preform () to expand the truncated preform () and form the reduced material container (). A stretch rod () can be inserted into the preform () to mechanically stretching the preform (). The mold () accepts the preform () at a first end () thereof, has an open state and a closed state, and the closed state forms a cavity () defining an internal surface () having a second end () located remotely from the first end (). A first length () is defined by a distance between the first end () and the second end (), the stretch rod () mechanically stretching the preform () to a second length (), the second length () being greater than the first length ().

An apparatus and method for simultaneously forming and filling a plastic container without the use of a mold forming a mold cavity () is provided. A pressure source () includes an inlet () and a piston-like device (). The piston-like device () is moveable in a first direction wherein liquid is drawn into the pressure source () through the inlet () and in a second direction wherein the liquid is urged toward the preform (). A blow nozzle () may be adapted to receive the liquid from the pressure source () and transfer the liquid at high pressure (P) into the preform () thereby urging the preform () to freely expand until an unopened end thereof contacts a platen (). The platen () forms a bottom in a resultant container. The liquid remains within the container as an end product.

Methods and systems for simultaneously forming and filling a container from a preform with fluid, adjusting a fill point of the fluid, and removing air and/or foam from within the container. One of the methods includes injecting fluid from a fill source into the preform through a nozzle passage defined between the nozzle and a seal pin of the forming and filling system to simultaneously form the container from the preform and fill the container. After the container is formed and filled, the seal pin is actuated to close the nozzle passage and prevent fluid and air from exiting the container through the nozzle passage, thereby trapping fluid and air within the container under pressure. Air, fluid, and/or foam is extracted out from within the container through a passageway defined within a stretch rod to adjust a fill point of the container.
