The present disclosure is directed to a light-colored wood component for the interior of an automotive vehicle that includes a UV additive-containing aqueous treating mixture coated onto the wood substrate at a loading ranging between about 84 to about 104 g/m, and having a low gloss polyurethane-containing topcoat essentially free of UV additives applied to the top surface of the wood substrate. The wood component can have a 60 degree surface gloss rating no greater than about 25 gloss units measured according to ASTM D523-08 test conditions. Methods of producing the vehicle interior component are also disclosed.

Disclosed is an improved ESD control system for use in vehicular applications that incorporated one or more dissipative elements constructed from a blend of polypropylene and a urethane/acrylic alloy which form substantially co-continuous networks and which are suitable for injection molding operations to produce dissipative elements. The dissipative elements are then incorporated into vehicular interiors in a manner whereby a surface of the element is exposed to contact, whether incidental or deliberate, by the vehicle occupants, particularly as they are entering or exiting the vehicle, to provide controlled dissipation of electrostatic charges that have accumulated on the occupants. In particular, these materials may be used in forming portions of the vehicle seat assembly and/or door assembly that will typically be contacted during egress, operation of the vehicle and/or ingress in order to suppress subsequent and less controlled discharges that could compromise the comfort and safety of the vehicle occupants.

Controlled dissipation of electrostatic charge

A vehicle structure can include a coating that provides a three-dimensional tactile pattern to the vehicle structure. In addition, a method for forming a vehicle structure can include applying a film that provides a three-dimensional tactile pattern to the vehicle structure. The vehicle structure can be a trim piece of a vehicle to which the film provides decorative and tactile features. A thin metal layer can be applied on top of a substrate by a metallizing technique, such as physical vapor deposition, followed by applying a radiation curable formulation and exposing it to radiation source, such as UV light. The radiation curable formulation can be a UV ink that is spaced at separate and distinct locations on the film and extends from the metallic layer to such an extent that it is discernable by human touch.

Vehicle structure with three dimensional film and method

This invention relates to a thermoplastic resin composition containing: (a) about 85 to about 95 weight % of a crystalline propylene ethylene block copolymer or a combination of crystalline propylene ethylene copolymer and a propylene homopolymer whose (i) ethylene content ranges from about 2.2 to about 4.2 weight %, (ii) melt flow rate ranges from about 20 to about 30 g/10 minutes, and (iii) isotactic/pentad fraction of propylene homopolymer is greater than or equal to about 94%; (b) about 2 to about 8 weight % ethylene butene rubber whose melt flow rate ranges from about 6 to about 8 g/10 minutes and density ranges from about 0.860 to about 0.865 g/cc and (c) about 2 to about 8 parts by weight talc with an average diameter ranging from about 1 to about 2 &mgr;m. The thermoplastic resin composition is lightweight but maintains good rigidity and heat resistance properties. The thermoplastic resin may be molded into an article, such as those used as parts for an automobile interior.
