The present disclosure provides a user interface process flow for posting content on a display device. The disclosed techniques include a user interface process that initiates a connection that enables a host device to receive content from a guest device in a secure and discrete manner. The host device utilizes one or more graphical elements to invoke a user input at the host device to verify that the user is physically present at the host device. In response to the user input, a server generates a connection identifier that is communicated to, and displayed at, the host device. The connection identifier and an address of a server are displayed at, or otherwise communicated from, the host device to a guest device. The guest device uses the connection identifier to establish a connection with the host device for delivery of content from the guest device for display on the host device.

User interface process flow for posting content on a display device

The present disclosure provides a system that enables manipulation of a persistent display of shared content. Content can be shared with a host device from a guest device. A rendering of the content is configured to be manipulated by a user at the host device. For instance, a rendering of the content can be resized, scaled, rotated and moved within a graphical user interface. Annotations can also be added to the rendering of the content. The rendering of the content can also be persistently and automatically displayed in response to a device operating in a predetermined state. The predetermined state can include, for example, a lock screen mode, a bulletin board mode, or a mode when application user interfaces are minimized. The rendering may be removed from a display when the device exits the predetermined state or when the device receives a specific command to remove the rendering.

Manipulation of a persistent display of shared content

A communal computing device, like an interactive digital whiteboard, can detect the start and end of user sessions with the device. When a communal computing device detects the end of a user session, the it can determine if a personal device that was connected at the start of the user session or during the user session was also connected at the end of the user session. If so, the device can initiate actions based on the session start or end signals such as, but not limited to, transmitting a message to an organizer of a meeting scheduled during the time of the user session, transmitting a message to a participant of a meeting scheduled during the time of the user session, transmitting a message to an administrator, or generating a notification, such as a user interface reminding a user to take their personal device.

Scoping the lifetime of personal devices connected to communal computing devices

Techniques for a content portal to an external display are described. In at least some implementations, content from a mobile computing device is dropped at a content portal for display on an external display. According to various implementations, content displayed at an external display by a mobile device is modifiable via input received at the mobile device. In one or more implementations, content dropped at a content portal on a mobile device is displayed on an external display via a different application than on the mobile device.

A computer-implemented technique is described herein for facilitating a user's interaction with graphical elements, such as emoji characters. The technique entails: presenting a collection of graphical elements on a display surface of a user interface mechanism; presenting a selector mechanism on the display surface that provides a plurality of attribute value options (such as skin tone options); receiving a selection by the user of one of the attribute value options, to provide a selected attribute value; globally modifying at least a subset of the graphical elements in the collection based on the selected attribute value, and displaying those modified graphical elements. In one approach, the technique presents the collection of graphical elements in an array that is capable of being panned along at least a first axis of movement. The technique reveals the selector mechanism when the user pans the array along a second axis of movement.
