Luminaires are described herein comprising a single fixture operable for providing multiple lighting distributions. The multiple lighting distributions can be employed for independently lighting spatially unrelated areas and/or objects in an environment. In some embodiments, a luminaire comprises a lighting assembly including a primary body providing a primary lighting distribution, and at least one secondary body extending from the primary body and providing a secondary lighting distribution. The secondary body is adjustable to at least partially orient the secondary lighting distribution outside of the primary lighting distribution.

Luminaires having multiple lighting distributions

A method for manufacturing of a lens for distribution of light from a light emitter. The method provides an injection-molding cavity defined by a shape-forming configuration with a texturing in at least one area of the cavity. A thermoplastic elastomer is injected into the cavity shaping a lens-region thickness of the elastomer. Such lens-region thickness is cooled and set prior to sinking of the elastomer such that the lens-region thickness retains the texturing of the shape-forming configuration forming a textured surface portion of the lens.

Method for manufacturing lens with facilitated light diffusion

A LED lighting device includes a temperature sensitive component having a temperature limit. A driver controls current delivered to the at least one LED and includes a temperature sensor for determining a temperature of the driver. A controller stores a correlated temperature limit of the driver, the controller controls the driver to reduce the current delivered to the LEDs when the correlated temperature limit is reached. The correlated temperature limit is the temperature of the driver when the temperature of the temperature sensitive component reaches its temperature limit.

At least one surface of the interface may have a texturing for diffusion of emitter light passing therethrough. And, a method for manufacturing of the lens by forming a lens region with a textured surface portion by injecting the thermoplastic elastomer into an injection-molding cavity defined by a shape-forming configuration with a texturing in at least one area of the cavity. The shape-forming configuration is configured to shape a thermoplastic elastomer into such thickness that the set elastomer retains the texturing.

Luminaire utilizing waveguide

An LED light fixture including a housing portion and a base together defining an open space therebetween permitting air/water-flow therethrough. The housing portion forms a chamber enclosing at least one driver. The base extends from the housing portion and supports at least one LED illuminator outside the chamber. The housing portion and the base may each be formed as part of a one piece with the open space along at least three sides of the base. Alternatively, the base may be a separate structure secured with respect to the housing. Such base may be a single-piece extrusion supporting a plurality of LED modules or comprise a plurality of extruded heat sinks. Each heat sink may support one or more LED modules.

LED light fixture

A lens for distribution of light from a light emitter having an emitter axis. The lens includes an outer surface and a total internal reflection (TIR) surface positioned outwardly of and around the emitter such that light received by the TIR surface is totally internally reflected toward the outer surface. The TIR surface has at least one recessed region extending away from the light emitter, thereby to increase amount of TIR and facilitate lateral diffusion of highest-intensity light in the middle of the light distribution. The lens may further include a base surface adjacent the emitter and an inner surface defining an inner cavity about the emitter axis. In such embodiments, the TIR is positioned and configured for total internal reflection of light received from the inner surface.

LED lens

A lens for primarily forward distribution of light from a light emitter which has an emitter axis in a front-to-back centerplane. The lens has a base surface which is adjacent the emitter and forms a light-entrance opening, an inner surface which defines a light-receiving cavity and includes front and back regions extending from the light-entrance opening, and an outer surface which has front and back regions adjoined by a middle region. The back region includes a back portion configured for forward total internal reflection (TIR) of rearward light received from the inner surface. The back portion extends transverse to the front-to-back centerplane away from the base surface from positions which are closer to the base surface than the innermost cavity region and terminates with a distal end which is closer to the base surface than outermost positions of the front region. The back portion terminates laterally at positions closer to the front-to-back centerplane than lateral edges of the light-entrance opening and, in the front-to-back centerplane, the emitter axis is no farther from the back portion of the outer surface than from a back edge of the light-entrance opening.

An LED lighting fixture comprising a housing portion and a light-emitting portion supporting at least one illuminator, the housing portion and the light-emitting portion defining an open space therebetween permitting air/water-flow therethrough. In some embodiments, at least one wall extends within the open space and open for air/water-flow along at least two sides thereof.

An LED light fixture including a housing, a heat sink secured with respect to the housing and an LED illuminator secured with respect to the heat sink. The heat sink includes central and peripheral portions. The central portion has an LED-supporting surface and forward, rearward and lateral sides, the LED illuminator being at the LED-supporting surface. The peripheral portion extends laterally from the lateral sides. The central portion of the heat sink has downwardly-extending shield members at the lateral sides thereof configured and dimensioned to block illumination in a direction opposite the LED illuminator. In embodiments where the optical member is configured for directing emitter light predominantly toward the forward side, the central heat-sink portion has a downwardly-extending shield member at the rearward side thereof configured and dimensioned to block rearward illumination.

LED light fixture with integrated light shielding

An LED light fixture including a housing and an LED assembly secured with respect to the housing. The LED assembly includes a heat sink and an LED illuminator secured with respect to an LED-supporting region of the heat sink with heat-dissipating surfaces extending therefrom. The heat sink having front, rear and lateral sides and being open to ambient-fluid flow to and from the heat-dissipating surfaces along each of the sides.
