Receiving filter design that reduces out-of-channel interference for APs is disclosed. An AP includes a first radio and a second radio disposed in a body of the AP. The first radio transmits first signals in a frequency band while the second radio receives second signals in the same frequency band. The AP includes an interference mitigation controller that determines a receiving filter for the second radio to mitigate interference between the first radio and the second radio based on the second signals received by the second radio when the first radio transmits the first signals in the frequency band. The interference mitigation controller applies the receiving filter to signals received by the second radio during a time period that the first radio is transmitting signals in the frequency band while the second radio is receiving signals in the frequency band.

Filter design for access points

Described in example embodiments herein are techniques for implementing power savings in a wireless local area network (WLAN). In accordance with an example embodiment, a centralized controller can be employed to gather data about network activity and select access points to switch to power save mode. Optionally, the controller may designate certain access points to remain active so as to monitor for clients attempting to access the WLAN. An aspect of an example embodiment is that it allows the controller to configure and manage power consumption based on demands on the overall system. In an example embodiment, techniques for implementing power savings within individual hardware components, such as access points, are disclosed. An aspect of a technique described in an example embodiment is that it provides flexibility to balance power savings and performance.

In an example embodiment, there is disclosed an apparatus comprising a first transmitter, a second transmitter, and logic coupled to the first transmitter and the second transmitter. The logic is operable to limit a time period the second transmitter is able to transmit while the first transmitter is transmitting.

Reducing power consumption on multi-transmitter devices

In an example embodiment, a wireless device, such as an access point, employs multiple radios that operate on the same or overlapping channels. For example, the wireless device can be upgraded with a new radio that is compatible with a newer protocol to provide service to newer clients that are capable of employing the new protocol, while also providing backwards compatibility to legacy clients.

In one embodiment, a signal detector is coupled to an external power source. The signal detector is configured to ascertain whether a predetermined signal was received from the external power source. Control logic is coupled to the signal detector and to the external power source. The control logic is responsive to the signal detector to determine a characteristic of the external power source based on whether the signal detector detected the predetermined signal. The characteristics of the external power supply can be determined based on the frequency, amplitude and duration of a signal received from the power injector. This enables the control logic to determine the power available from an unknown power supply and to configure a device to operate accordingly.

Multiple density configurations and algorithms for intelligent power savings infrastructure in wireless LANs

A system and method for increasing accuracy of transmitter power detection over a larger range of output power levels wherein a diode detector is followed by a series cascade of 2 op amps. The first op amp functions as a differential/buffer amplifier, which improves temperature performance. The second op amp has two selectable gain factors. The output of the second op amp is routed to the ADC. A single control line is connected to a controllable switching device that configures the second op amp for high gain or low gain.

System and method for increasing accuracy of transmitter power detection over a larger range of output power levels

In an example embodiment, a primary power supply having an input, an output and a mode selection input. The mode selection input is operative to switch the power supply between a first mode of operation and a second mode of operation. While in the first mode of operation voltage is regulated within a predefined criterion. While in the second mode of operation, voltage at the output is allowed to vary beyond the predefined criteria.

Limiting peak input power

A switching interface comprising a switch having an input and a plurality of outputs, and a memory associated with the switch. The switch is adapted to receive a packet from the input, the packet to be forwarded to a destination device coupled to a one of the plurality of outputs. The switch is responsive to store the packet in the associated memory. The switch is further responsive to a signal from the destination device to forward the packet from the associated memory to the destination device through the one of the plurality of outputs. Optionally, the switching interface may further comprise a packet encryption engine coupled between the input and the associated memory. Typically, the output devices coupled to the plurality of outputs will each have its own separate encryption process; in these scenarios the encryption engine will have logic for determining the appropriate encryption for the output device.

In one embodiment, a powered device is configured to determine module population and the appropriate power requirements for installed modules. The power requirements can be communicated to the power sourcing equipment for the powered device. Optionally, the powered device can receive data representative of available power from the power sourcing equipment and the powered device is responsive to operate accordingly.

A bus arbiter that ensures high priority transfers complete and allows high-priority data transfers with specific latency requirements, such as 802.11 requirements, to be prioritized above data transfers with lower latency requirements. As an example, the arbiter closely manages all transactions and guarantees sufficient latencies by pre-empting lower-priority data transfers with higher priority data transfers. All devices on the bus are configured with a latency timer setting of zero or a non-zero value which guarantees required data transfer latencies are met which means that any device will terminate bus-master transfers quickly upon the bus grant signal being de-asserted. To ensure a transfer completes, bus grant for the priority transfer is asserted until entire data transfer completion is imminent, enabling transfers, such as high priority transfers, to complete uninterrupted.
