A mounting system secures a component in a tubular, which includes a compression element and an annular flow guide. The flow guide is attached to the component by a threaded connection. The compression collar and flow guide have complementary profiles on their respective inner and outer surfaces, which when the compression collar is coaxially urged along the outer surface of the flow guide, the compression collar is radially expanded into compressive engagement with an inner surface of the tubular. A thrust ring threads onto the flow guide, and when rotated, abuts an end of the compression collar to urge the compression collar along the flow guide. The compression collar is rotatable with respect to the flow guide, and includes fingers that register with pockets on an outer housing of the component. Registering the fingers and pockets resists loosening of the threaded connection between the flow guide and component.

Inner bore coupling assembly

A downhole assembly includes a first tubular including a first shoulder and a second tubular including a second shoulder. The assembly further includes a transmission element having a first portion disposed in the first shoulder, the first portion includes an electrically conductive member having a first arc length and a second portion disposed in the second shoulder. The second portion includes a contacting element having a second arc length that is substantially less than the first arc length and further includes an outer insulating carrier that defines a groove. The contacting element is disposed in the groove. When the first tubular is joined to the second tubular, the contacting element contacts the electrically conductive member and the second portion defines at least one region between the electrically conductive member and the second portion in areas of the groove where the contacting element does not contact the electrically conductive member.

Electrical downhole communication connection for downhole drilling

A downhole device configured to be inserted into a borehole includes a device body having an outer surface and a recess formed in the outer surface, a cover covering the recess to form a first cavity, and a shock-absorber configured to support an electrical module within the first cavity, the shock-absorber disposed between a base of the first cavity and the cover opposite the base. The downhole device also includes a vibration-damping layer disposed between the base of the first cavity and the cover, the vibration-damping layer configured to dampen vibration of the electrical module.

Packaging for electronics in downhole assemblies

An modular apparatus for generating electrical power in a borehole penetrating the earth includes a body comprising first and second mechanical connectors at opposing ends and first and second electrical connectors at the opposing ends, the mechanical connectors and the electrical connectors being configured to connect with the same type of corresponding connectors on another modular apparatus when the modular apparatus and the another modular apparatus are stacked together. The modular apparatus further includes: an electrical generator having a rotor and stator in mechanical communication with the first and second mechanical connectors and in electrical communication with the first and second electrical connectors; and a turbine wheel coupled to or integrated with the rotor and comprising one or more turbine blades that are configured to interact with fluid flowing through the borehole causing the turbine wheel to rotate and the rotor to rotate in order to generate the electrical power.

Modular downhole generator

An apparatus for use in a wellbore is disclosed that in one non-limiting embodiment includes a flow restriction device that that contains a channeling element having a fluid flow passage, a restriction element spaced from the channeling element defining a gap between the restriction element and the channeling element, wherein relative movement between the restriction element and the channeling element obstructs flow of a fluid flowing through the flow passage to increase pressure in the fluid across the device. In one embodiment an activation device displaces one of the channeling element and the restriction element to adjusts or alter gap in response to certain changes in the pressure across the restriction device.
