Disclosed herein is the use of CER-001, a negatively charged lipoprotein complex which comprises recombinant human apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), sphingomyelin (SM), and 1,2-dihexadecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1'-rac-glycerol) (DPPG) for treating kidney diseases, and methods for treating a subject having kidney diseases with CER-001. For example, the kidney disease can be associated with a lecithin cholesterol acyl transferase (LCAT) deficiency.
