A shunting element includes two terminal elements for bridging an electrical component, at least one semiconductor component, and at least one electrically conducting layer connecting the semiconductor component to the two terminal elements, the electrically conducting layer being alloyed with the semiconductor component to form a shorting element upon the passage of a current which increases the temperature in the electrically conducting layer and in the semiconductor component to a given value.

Shunting element

Method for manufacturing a conductive plastic of a defined conductivity by forming a polymer alloy. A polar or nonpolar insulating polymer and a polar or nonpolar conductive polymer are used for forming the polymer alloy. The two polymers are mixed together and they are homogeneously distributed within the polymer alloy.

Method for producing a plastic

A solid insulator having high electrical resistance of inorganic and organic materials such as ceramic, glass, plastics, resins which is treated by application of an ion beam to the insulator surface to effect incorporation by controlled implantation of ions in the insulator adjacent its surface to produce an insulator surface of desired conductivity. This overcomes the difficulties due to uneven voltage distributions on the insulator surface which can cause discharges and even the destruction of the insulator.
