An automated method for performing an assay of the present disclosure can be performed in a microfluidic device that is a lateral flow device having numerous features to ensure correct operation of the device under gravity, such as vent pockets for enabling the flow of sample fluid from one chamber to the next when the vent pocket is unsealed. Each chamber can have a reagent recess proximal to an inlet end of the chamber. A reagent pellet formed in a reagent recess can be effectively mixed with a sample as the sample flows into the chamber. A flexible circuit with patterned metallic electrical components disposed on a heat stable material can be in direct contact with fluid in the chambers and has resistive heating elements aligned with, for example, a chamber for performing an amplification reaction. A lateral flow detection chamber can include a capillary pool proximal to a sample receiving end of a lateral flow strip, providing effective mixing and dispersion of a sample with detection particles, as well as enhancing, uniformity of particle migration on the detection strip. The microfluidic device can be configured to be hermetically sealed, thereby preventing contamination of a testing environment.

Automated method for performing an assay

A lateral flow assay device of the present disclosure has numerous features to ensure correct operation of the device under gravity, such as vent pockets for enabling the flow of sample fluid from one chamber to the next when the vent pocket is unsealed. The vent pockets have protrusions to help prevent accidental resealing. The device also can have a gasket to ensure free air movement between open vent pockets. Flow control features that protrude horizontally into a chamber proximal to an outlet act to deflect the flow to the side of the chamber opposite from the outlet, prior to the flow entering the outlet. Such features can reduce the flow velocity of the sample fluid and increase the effective fluid flow path length, enhance mixing of reagents with a sample, and enabling more accurate control of fluid flow in the device. A flexible circuit with patterned metallic electrical components disposed on a heat stable material can be in direct contact with fluid in the chambers and has resistive heating elements aligned with the vent pockets and the chambers.

Fluidic test cassette

A fuel pump system for aircraft includes an auxiliary fuel pump in-line with the primary pump, and an electric motor driving the auxiliary fuel pump at an operational motor speed. The system includes an electric control circuit (ECC) and a pressure sensor to regulate the speed of the electric motor based on the output pressure from the sensor to maintain a constant predetermined output pressure. The system may have additional fault mitigation circuitry configured to automatically switch from a processor-controlled to a fixed voltage as a source of power driving the electric motor at either a regulated speed or a constant fixed speed, respectively. The system may include a switch having user-selectable operational modes, including ECC-controlled mode and a high boost mode selectable if the ECC fails. In high boost mode, the ECC is bypassed to drive the electric motor at a fixed safe speed.

Fuel pump with electronic controlled pressure regulation and failure mitigation

A signal strength meter for use in determining an optimal position of a magnetic pick-up device. The signal strength meter includes a vertical synchronization processing circuit, and audio processing circuit and a power and control circuit. The signal strength meter receives vertical synchronization and audio signals radiated from a television set, as well as an audio test signal directly provided by a pattern generator. The signal strength meter determines parameters such as a phase stability of the vertical synchronization signal detected by the pick-up device, a level of the audio signal detected by the pick-up device, an audio phase measurement of the audio signal sensed by the pick-up device with respect to an audio test signal input directly to the signal strength meter, and an audio noise floor measurement.

Television audience monitoring system and apparatus and method of aligning a magnetic pick-up device

A method and apparatus for providing uninterrupted DC and AC power for a desktop personal computer is described. The source of the uninterrrupted DC and AC power is derived from an integrated power supply that is sized to fit within the existing housings of most desktop personal computers as a plug-in replacement for existing power supplies. A high degree of efficiency is obtained using an integrated design with the main power conversion derived from a DC/DC dual primary resonant converter. The main primary of the resonant converter is driven from a high voltage DC bus which is supplied from AC mains when available. When the AC mains is unavailable, the second primary of the DC/DC dual primary resonant converter receives power from a low voltage battery source. Secondaries of the converter produce low voltage DC for driving the personal computer, high voltage DC for augmenting the high voltage DC bus, which in turn is used to drive a DC/AC inverter for supplying uninterrupted AC voltage for powering peripherals such as a monitor, printer, etc. A medium-voltage secondary is also sourced from the converter which drives a battery charger to recharge an internal battery pafck upon restoration of the AC mains.
