An adapter plate for use with a cable distribution enclosure. The cable distribution enclosure includes an adapter plate bracket which receives a plurality of adapter plates. Each adapter plate holds a number of cable adapters. The adapter plates feature a latching mechanism so that the adapter plate, and associated cable adapters, can be easily installed and removed from the adapter plate bracket.

Dust caps for use with multiple optical fiber adapters and connectors. A first embodiment of the invention is a dust cap for use with ST adapters, ST connectors and SC connectors. The dust cap includes a sealing surface for contacting the bottom of an ST adapter for sealing the portion of the adapter containing the alignment sleeve. The dust cap also includes an opening having a reduced diameter to prevent contamination of the tip of the ferrule of an ST or SC connector. The dust cap may be formed in a duplex fashion and include a retaining strap for securing the dust cap to an ST adapter. An alternative embodiment of the invention is a dust cap having a first side for mating with either an SC or ST adapter and a second side for mating with either an SC or ST connector.

A rack mountable cable distribution enclosure. The cable distribution enclosure includes a tray that slides forwards and backwards out of the cable distribution enclosure. The tray incudes an adapter plate bracket which receives a plurality of adapter plates. The adapter plates are mounted in a horizontal orientation, parallel to the sliding tray. This reduces the height of the cable distribution enclosure for installations where less space is available. The adapter plate bracket is angled relative to the sliding tray to prevent bending of the cable.

Adapters for coupling optical fiber. A first adapter includes ports for receiving optical fiber fitted with a first interface connector. The adapter includes first interface ports mounted to a block. The block has an outer dimension corresponding to a panel cut-out for a second interface adapter. Mounting clips may be preformed in the block. A second adapter includes a duplex retention latch including a first retention latch for receiving and gripping a first optical fiber connector and a second retention latch for receiving and gripping a second optical fiber connector. The first and second retention latches are joined by a connecting member integral with the first retention latch and the second retention latch. A third embodiment includes mounting clips that extend through openings formed in the adapter body.

A rack mountable cable distribution enclosure. The cable distribution enclosure includes a tray that slides forwards and backwards out of the cable distribution enclosure. The tray includes an adapter plate bracket which receives a plurality of adapter plates. The adapter plate bracket holds up to 12 adapter plates, each of which holds a variety of adapters. In fiber optic cable applications, each adapter plate can hold 6 duplex adapters, or 12 fibers, providing a density of 144 fibers.

A rotatable grommet for opening or closing access to a panel opening. The rotatable grommet is a C-shaped grommet having a grommet opening approximately the same size as the access area of a panel opening. The rotatable grommet includes a post that engages an arched slot formed in the panel. The ends of the arched slot define the open and closed positions for the rotatable grommet. The rotatable grommet includes a handle having handle protrusions that ease rotation of the rotatable grommet. At least one latch establishes friction between the rotatable grommet and the panel opening so that the rotatable grommet will not be inadvertently opened or closed.

A cable management enclosure for providing neat, organized installation of cable (such as fiber optic or copper) and providing easy access to the cable for maintenance. The cable management enclosure provides an area for managing cabling at the work area (an area located close in proximity to the station equipment, which includes telephones, data terminals, and computers) by providing a connection point for 2, 4, or 6 fiber connectors utilizing slide-in adapter panels. There are also provisions for copper connections with the integration of a single-gang faceplate which can be mounted directly to the cable management enclosure cover to accommodate up to 6 modular jacks. The base of the cable management enclosure provides incoming fiber cable strain relief plus storage and management of up to 1 meter of slack for as many as 6 fibers. A cover snaps onto the base to provide dust-proofing and protection for the fibers. A concealed cover-to-base screw accommodation is included for added security if desired. Molded-in icon pockets permit fiber port identification with the use of color-coded, snap-in icons.
