The present application provides a system () that comprises a mobile phone () to allow testing of samples from a patient at the point of care or environmental/industrial process monitoring tests to be performed in the field. The system () may be easily adapted for use with a variety of different mobile phones (). The mobile phone () comprises an integrated camera (). The system () further comprises an optical module () for receiving a sample for testing. The mobile phone () is configured to extract the intensity and/or color information from the camera ().

Optical testing system

An optical probe for detecting luminescence emitted by a sample is disclosed. The optical probe includes a parabolic optical waveguide and an outer housing having a detachable component configured to hold a transparent sensor substrate that can be coupled to the optical waveguide. The optical probe also includes a sensing material for detection of at least one specified analyte. An excitation source is configured to excite the sensing material. The optical probe also incorporates a measuring photodetector that detects emitted luminescence.
