A system and method for warming a fuel cell on an aircraft, the system includes at least one fuel cell. The fuel cell includes an anode and a cathode for creating thermal and electrical energy. A temperature sensor measures a first temperature of the fuel cell. A control unit is coupled to the temperature sensor. The control unit increases the first temperature to a second temperature in response to the first temperature being at least equal to a selected temperature threshold. Increasing of the first temperature is indicative of the control unit operating in a warming mode. The second temperature is higher than the selected temperature threshold.

Warming feature for aircraft fuel cells

An aircraft includes a fuselage that has an exterior contour with an opening and a duct that is arranged interiorly of the exterior contour and extends from the opening. A ram air turbine is arranged within the duct. A deployable inlet scoop is mounted on the fuselage and is configured to be moveable between stowed and deployed positions. The stowed position blocks the opening into the duct and the deployed position exposes the opening and permits airflow through the duct. A method of providing electrical power includes identifying an electrical power demand condition, deploying an inlet scoop from an aircraft fuselage, and driving a ram air turbine with an airflow through the inlet scoop into the fuselage.

A combination hub, counterweight and crank arm for a governor assembly in a ram air turbine is has a hub section with a cylindrical orifice, an annular collar section that surround the hub section, a counterweight section that extends out of the annular collar section and a crank arm section that extends out of the annular collar section, with all the sections formed in a single piece steel body.

A system of speed control for a ram air turbine of an aircraft includes a power electronics controller, at least one routing device in communication with the power electronics controller, at least one secondary load in serial communication with the at least one routing device and the power electronics controller, and a ram air turbine (RAT) in communication with the power electronics controller, wherein the power electronics controller is configured to apply the secondary load to the RAT through the at least one routing device in response to a transient speed increase of the RAT.
