In an example, an electrosurgical device includes a housing defining an interior bore. The electrosurgical device also includes a shaft telescopically moveable in the interior bore of the housing. The shaft includes an optical waveguide at a distal end of the shaft, and a smoke evacuation channel circumferentially surrounding the optical waveguide at the distal end of the shaft. The electrosurgical device also includes an electrosurgical electrode coupled to the shaft.

A handswitch () for a powered surgical handpiece () comprises a mounting base (), a lever (), a spring, a run-safe switch () and a lever extension. The mounting base defines a pivot axis. The elongated lever defines a lever axis substantially normal to a direction of the pivot axis. The lever includes a proximal end pivotably connected to the mounting base at the pivot axis and a distal end opposite the proximal end. The first track is on an inner side of the lever. The second track is on an outer side of the lever opposite the inner side, with both tracks substantially parallel to the lever axis. The spring is between the base and the lever and biases the lever about the pivot axis. The run-safe switch is slidably disposed on the first track. The lever extension is slidably disposed on the second track.

A surgical sagittal saw cartridge that includes a guide bar formed from an inner plate and opposed outer plates, the inner plate defining a head. The cartridge has a blade that is disposed against the head of the inner plate. The inner plate may comprise an inner tine and/or two opposed outer tines. The inner tine may be formed to define the head against which the blade is disposed. The outer tines may extend distally so as to define a space between the outer tines in which the blade is seated.

A surgical saw system including a saw, a blade cartridge and an attachment. The saw including a housing and a reciprocating shaft. The blade cartridge that may be removably coupled to the saw includes a bar and a rack. The bar includes a first holding feature. The rack is moveably disposed within the bar, and is configured to removably couple to the reciprocating shaft of the saw. The attachment is disposed between and connecting the bar of the blade cartridge to the saw. The attachment may include a coupling feature in selective releasable engagement with the first holding feature of the bar to hold the bar static relative to the saw. The blade cartridge may also include a drive link that extends from reciprocating shaft of the saw and the rack for imparting the reciprocal motion of the reciprocating shaft to the rack.

A surgical blade assembly includes a blade having side surfaces defining a width greater than its thickness. The surgical blade assembly also includes a reinforcing member having a body portion, and first and second arms extending from the body portion to define a receiving portion. The receiving portion is configured to receive the blade and the first and second arms are configured to abut the side surfaces of the blade. The first and second arms act as a strut to reinforce the blade against external forces applied to the blade. The blade and the reinforcing member may include coupling features to prevent separation of the reinforcing member from the blade. The blade and the reinforcing member may be substantially perpendicular to each other when coupled.

A drive link extends from the base, providing a second holding feature for releasably engaging a reciprocating drive integral with the saw. One of the base and the bar includes a guide slot. The other of the base and the bar includes a static member extending into the guide slot. The guide slot and the static member allow the rack to reciprocally move from proximal to distal to proximal along a longitudinal axis of the bar. The bar includes two plates and a spacer between the plates. The base is located between the plates.
