A system for calibrating ESAs calculates a taper based on ESA element coordinates, and stores the taper as a vector matrix of gain values. The gain values are normalized by accounting for known losses by measuring a central element at minimum attenuation. The normalized gain is then a reference for every other element in the array. The other elements are then measured at various attenuations to identify an attenuation to produce the desired gain. The measurements are performed according to a bisection algorithm. Attenuation may be embodied in a set of digital register values.

Low SLL AESA taper calibration

An antenna array testing circuit can include a circuitry including a plurality of memory registers, a testing sequence generation logic, and a testing control logic. The memory registers can store, for each antenna element of a plurality of antenna elements of the phased antenna array, a corresponding antenna element ID. The memory registers can store a testing step ID indicative of a testing step of a sequence of testing steps. The testing sequence generation logic can determine, for each antenna element of the phased antenna array, using the corresponding antenna element ID and the testing step ID, a corresponding testing signal indicative of a testing state of the antenna element during the testing step. The testing control logic can cause each antenna element the phased antenna array to be configured according to the corresponding testing signal during the testing step.

Embedded antenna array metrology systems and methods

A system for calibrating conformal ESAs includes a rotating platform (positioner) or multiple test probes, or both. Measurements are taken with different radiating elements at different azimuthal angles to the test probes and compared to a known profile to compute correction coefficients for angel and gain for each radiating element. Each radiating element is operated at full power and across a wide frequency spectrum to acquire measurements including coupling and allow calibration to be based on group delay over the frequency spectrum rather than phase delay.

Conformal ESA calibration

A system may include a processor and an antenna array including antenna radiating elements. The processor may be configured to: receive first, second, third, and fourth measurement coding matrixes; calculate a reference encoding matrix with coherent signal leakage de-embedded by subtracting the fourth measurement coding matrix from the third measurement coding matrix; calculate a differential encoding matrix providing twice a signal-to-noise ratio by adding the first measurement coding matrix and the second measurement coding matrix; calculate a differential matrix decoded back to conventional Hadamard matrix by subtracting the differential encoding matrix providing twice a signal-to-noise ratio from the reference encoding matrix with coherent signal leakage de-embedded; calculate complex calibration coefficients for the antenna radiating elements by multiplying an inverse Hadamard matrix by the differential matrix decoded back to conventional Hadamard matrix; and program the antenna array with amplitude and phase offsets computed from the complex calibration coefficients.

System and method for calibrating antenna array

Systems and methods of mitigating signal interference in communications involving an antenna array can include determining a radiation pattern of the antenna array in communication with a first communication device. The method can include determining that a power level or gain of the antenna array in a direction pointing to a second communication device exceeds a predefined threshold value, using the radiation pattern of the antenna array and a position of the second communication device. The method can include identifying one or more antenna elements among a plurality of antenna elements of the antenna array to be powered off or applying non-uniform weighting to the antenna elements to distort the radiation pattern of the antenna array in a way to reduce the power level or gain of the antenna array in the direction pointing to the second communication device.

Systems and methods for mitigating adjacent satellite interference

Methods and Systems for testing phased antenna arrays include positioning a phased antenna array and a probe antenna at relative positions with respect to each other where one of them can operate as the transmitter and the other as the receiver. The transmitter can radiate a plurality of electromagnetic waves sequentially while the phased antenna array is steered or configured differently for each radiated electromagnetic. The receiver can receive, responsive to each radiated electromagnetic wave, a corresponding receive radio frequency (RF) signal. A processor can determine one or more performance parameters of the phased antenna array using the receive RF signals.
