An architecture is provided to generate an augmented reality environment and visualize or otherwise output information about changes to a physical object within the environment. The changes may include location, quantity, condition of the physical object, and so forth. Users may also use a rendering of a physical object to plan layout of the physical object in the environment. Prompts may be provided to guide placement of the physical object.

Visualizing change in augmented reality environments

An augmented reality environment allows interaction between virtual and real objects. By monitoring user actions with the augmented reality environment various functions are provided to users. Users may buy or sell items with a gesture, check inventory of objects in the augmented reality environment, view advertisements, and so forth.

User/object interactions in an augmented reality environment

Described are devices for automatically adapting electrical polarity from a power source to a specified output polarity for use by an electrical load. In one implementation, power adaptation circuitry comprising one or more bridge circuits accept electrical power of unspecified polarity and output specified polarity. The bridge circuit may comprise a plurality of field-effect transistors (FETs) configured such that a particular subset of the FETs are energized to conduct electric current to the outputs when a particular polarity is applied at inputs.

Techniques for identifying usable projection areas within an environment and projecting content onto these areas are described herein. The systems described herein may include one or more projectors, one or more cameras, and one or more computing devices. In some instances, the described techniques may utilize the one or more cameras to identify a flat projection surface. After identifying this surface, the techniques may use depth detection, edge detection, or other techniques to determine whether the surface includes any objects protruding there from. If so, then the techniques may identify the size and location of these objects and may store an indication that these objects occlude a portion of the flat projection surface and, therefore, that the locations associated with these objects are not usable projection areas. The techniques may then deduct the locations of the objects from the initially identified projection surface to determine the usable projection areas.

Identifying projection surfaces in augmented reality environments

Projection and camera systems may employ a joint locking mechanism that may enable a user to reposition or move structures (arms, lenses, etc.) that are otherwise locked in position. The joint locking mechanism may include a touch-activated presence detector to sense a presence of an extremity of a user. In response to the presence detector sensing the presence, an actuator may unlock a joint or structure to enable movement of the joint or structure while the presence detector continues to sense the presence. In response to a detection of an absence of the extremity, the actuator may return to a locked state to prevent further movement of the joint or structure.

A device includes a projection and camera system to create an augmented reality environment in which images are projected onto a scene and user movement within the scene is captured. In one implementation, the projection and camera system are mounted in a movable housing or head that is supported by a repositionable support structure. The housing can be moved to a desired position and then locked into a stationary and stable position for creation of the augmented realty environment.

A device includes a projection and camera system to create an augmented reality environment in which images are projected onto a scene and user movement within the scene is captured. The projection and camera system have a camera to image scattered IR light from the scene and compute time of flight values used in depth mapping of objects in the room. The system also has a projector to project the images onto the scene. The system controls the camera and projector mounted in a moveable head of a lamp with a motor mounted elsewhere in the lamp. In one implementation, the motor is mounted in the base of a table lamp.

A test system for testing directional capabilities of an audio device includes a horizontal linear actuator and a vertical linear actuator. The horizontal linear actuator supports a rotary actuator upon which the audio device is placed. The vertical linear actuator supports a sound source. To test the device, the actuators are controlled to establish multiple relative positions of the audio device and the sound source. A test sound is emitted at each of the relative positions. The audio device is configured to provide data generated in response to the test sound at each of the relative positions. The test system receives and records the data along with coordinates indicating the relative positions to which the data corresponds.

A device includes a projector to project an image onto a surface. The projector includes a micro-mirror device comprising an array of micro-mirrors. Light from a light source is reflected by one or more of the array of micro-mirrors, to project the image onto the surface. In one implementation, the micro-mirror device is rotated to correspondingly rotate the projected image on the surface. In one implementation, the device is housed in a table lamp.

A system for projecting an image onto a common surface location from multiple augmented reality functional nodes is provided. Projecting an image from multiple environments provides an overall brighter image for a user and provides the ability to utilize small and/or lower power projectors in an augmented reality environment while still having the ability to display a bright image.

Systems and techniques for determining when content is being projected onto a predefined surface and, in response, altering the projection are described herein. For instance, the systems may project content onto one or more surfaces of an environment. The content may comprise electronic books, images, videos, animations, interactive menus, and/or any other type of visual content. While projecting the content, the systems projecting the content may determine when some or all of the content is projected onto a predefined surface, either due to the system dynamically projecting the content throughout different locations and surfaces in the environment, due to the predefined surface moving within the environment, or a combination thereof. When the systems determine that all or a portion of the content is being projected onto a predefined surface, the systems may alter the projection of content by dimming the content, altering a location of the projection, or the like.
