The present invention provides a new sheeting article that may suitably include: a carrier having a first major surface and a second major surface; and a plurality of discrete segments of a sheeting (e.g., a retroreflective sheeting), wherein the sheeting has a first major viewing surface and a second major opposing surface, and the first major viewing surface of the sheeting is preferably removably attached to the second major surface of the carrier. Preferably, the first major surface of the carrier comprises a release surface, the second major opposing surface of the sheeting comprises an adhesive, the article is provided in the form of a roll, and the adhesive surface of the sheeting is adjacent the release surface of an adjacent layer of the roll. In a presently preferred embodiment the present invention provides novel easy-to-use truck conspicuity sheeting.

Segmented sheeting and methods of making and using same

A sensor for measuring the concentration of an analyte in a medium is disclosed. In one embodiment, the sensor comprises a sensing element including a matrix material and, covalently bonded thereto, one or more monomeric indicator components each of which is capable of providing a first emitted signal of a given wavelength in response to being exposed to an excitation signal. The sensing element is capable of providing a second emitted signal having a longer wavelength than the first emitted signal or signals in response to being exposed to the excitation signal, the second emitted signal being provided by an excimer component produced in the sensing element from the monomeric indicator component(s) and being dependent on the concentration of the analyte in the medium to a greater extent than the first emitted signal or signals. In another embodiment, the sensor comprises a sensing element including two or more different monomeric components at least one or which is a monomeric indicator component capable of providing a first emitted signal in response to being exposed to a first excitation signal. The sensing element is capable of providing a second emitted signal in response to being exposed to a second excitation signal. This second emitted signal is provided by an exciplex produced from the monomeric components. This second emitted signal is preferably dependent on the concentration of the analyte in the medium. An excitation assembly is positioned and adapted to provide the excitation signal to the sensing element. A detector assembly is positioned and adapted to detect the second emitted signal. Preferably, a processor assembly is positioned and adapted to analyze the second emitted signal in determining the concentration of the analyte in the medium.

Sensors and methods for sensing

A sensor for measuring the concentration of an analyte in a medium is disclosed. Compositions of matter and methods of preparation are described for water and air stable, square planar transition metal double-complex salts which contain isonitrile ligands derivatized with long chain aliphatic groups. These salts are composed of two metal-containing complex ions: the cation is a tetrakis isonitrile metal ion and the anion is a tetrahalometallate or tetracyanometallate. These double-complex salts exhibit the novel property of thermochromism and are useful as temperature indicators and in imaging applications.

Thermochromic double-complex salts

Articles comprise transition metal double-complex salts which contain arenyl isonitrile ligands derivatized with long aliphatic chains, the cation being a tetrakis isonitrile platinum ion and the anion being a tetracyanopalladate ion. These double-complex salts exhibit novel vapochromic effects and are useful as personal and badge monitors, threshold monitors, optical waveguide sensors, chemical field effect transistors, and in related monitoring applications.
