Methods, apparatus and computer readable media for provisioning a prepaid mobile staging account to consumer mobile devices are disclosed. In an embodiment, a staging account provider computer receives a request to provision a prepaid mobile payment staging account from a prepaid staging account application program running on a consumer's mobile device, wherein the request includes identification information. The staging account provider computer then associates the identification information with a staging account program developed by a primary issuer comprising at least one a pre-packaged prepaid mobile account, identifies a financial account of the consumer held by the primary issuer, generates a pre-packaged prepaid mobile staging account from the staging account program of the primary issuer which is loaded with funds from the consumer's financial account, and transmits a confirmation message indicating successful setup to the consumer's mobile device.

Methods and systems for prepaid mobile payment staging accounts

At a terminal assembly associated with a physical access point, payment device data is obtained from a reduced-functionality payment device, and the data is identified as emanating from such a device. In response, the payment device data emanating from the reduced-functionality payment device is converted into an authorization request or an access request, of a format consistent with full-functionality payment devices. The split is between an available offline balance and an available online balance. It is determined whether the user has entered a primarily offline environment or will imminently enter a primarily offline environment. If this is so, the total available balance split is redistributed to favor offline transactions.

Apparatus and method for dynamic offline balance management for preauthorized smart cards

It is determined whether a payment device has come into association with a special spending environment. If so, an authorization and guarantee for a predetermined amount of funds to cover multiple transactions within the special spending environment is requested from an issuer of the payment device. If successful, a balance, based on the predetermined amount of funds, is established on a local authorization platform that is associated with the special spending environment and that is separate from the issuer of the payment device. A series of purchases with the payment device, within the special spending environment, is tracked. For each given purchase of the series of purchases, the balance is adjusted to reflect the value of the given purchase. At some point, it is determined that the series of purchases is ended. An additional step includes, subsequent to determining that the series of purchases is ended, communicating with the issuer to request payment as to only that portion of the predetermined amount of funds actually spent in the series of purchases. A further step includes facilitating an immediate release of the guarantee as to that portion of the predetermined amount of funds not actually spent in the series of purchases. The immediate release is subsequent to determining that the series of purchases is ended. A special callback command to summon back funds is also contemplated.

Local management of payment transactions

Systems and methods for provisioning a prepaid mobile staging account to consumer mobile devices are described that allow issuer financial institutions to quickly and efficiently launch NFC device payment programs. In an embodiment, a staging account provider computer receives a request to provision a prepaid mobile payment staging account that includes identification information and associates the identification information with a prepaid mobile staging account. The staging account provider computer then identifies a financial account of the consumer held by an issuer financial institution (FI), generates a consumer prepaid mobile staging account loaded with funds from the financial account of the consumer, and transmits a confirmation message to the consumer's mobile device indicating successful setup.

A method for verifying the source of an authorization request includes: storing an integrated circuit card (ICC) master key; receiving an authorization request for a transaction, wherein the request includes an ICC dynamic number, and the ICC dynamic number is extracted from signed data, based on the ICC master key, generated by a payment card during combined data authentication (CDA); verifying the authenticity of the ICC dynamic number using the stored ICC master key; and transmitting the authorization request to a third party. A method for transmitting an authentic authorization request includes: storing payment card data, the data including an ICC master key associated with the payment card; authenticating the card data using CDA to generate signed data; extracting, from the signed data, an ICC dynamic number based on the ICC master key; and transmitting an authorization request for a transaction, the request including the extracted ICC dynamic number.

Method and system for the transmission of authenticated authorization requests

Methods and apparatus for provisioning a payment account on a mobile device at a location such as a retail store in conjunction with a purchase. A method includes a personalization server computer receiving payment account information of a consumer and a mobile payment account information request message from a merchant device, the message including information identifying the make and model of a mobile device being considered for purchase and a mobile network operator (MNO) identifier. The personalization server computer verifies the payment account information, determines a provisioning response message that includes information identifying at least one provisioning option, and transmits the provisioning response message to the merchant device for presentation to the consumer.

System and methods for issuance of a mobile payment account

A method may include requesting payment infrastructure data from a payment device reader. The method may further includes receiving payment infrastructure data from the payment device reader. The payment infrastructure data that is received may be indicative of a country in which the payment device reader is installed. In addition, the method may include selecting data for transmission to the payment device reader based at least in part on the received payment infrastructure data.

Acceptance quality improvement using localization data to adjust contactless payment

Described are methods and systems for remotely personalizing a payment device. In an embodiment, a trusted service provider (TSP) personalization server receives a payment device personalization request from a remote personalization device (RPD), determines that a hardware security token (HST) permits issuance of the payment device, and transmits a personalization data request to an issuer. The TSP personalization server then receives the requested personalization data from a Mobile Over-the-Air Provisioning Service (MOTAPS) server, generates session keys, converts data from the MOTAPS server into payment device application process data unit (APDU) data, and then transmits the personalization data and APDU data to the RPD to load onto a payment device.

In-market personalization of payment devices

A method for verifying an image by a first electronic device, the method comprising the first electronic device: sending a request for an image to a second electronic device, wherein the second electronic device is remote from the first electronic device and, optionally, a server; receiving an image and a certificate from the second electronic device, wherein the certificate comprises a protected checksum of at least the image; generating a checksum in dependence on at least the received image; performing a comparison in dependence on said generated checksum and the protected checksum received in the certificate; and verifying the received image in dependence upon the comparison. Advantageously, the first electronic device is able to verify each received image and to prevent the display of any received images that are not authenticated. Applications include the display of card images.

Near-field communication (NFC) test apparatus and methods for use by a consumer to confirm the functionality of the NFC circuitry the consumer's NFC-enabled mobile device, and/or to troubleshoot NFC communications problems of the mobile device. In an embodiment, a NFC test apparatus includes a mobile device package, at least one NFC tag configured for communications with NFC circuitry of a mobile device, and a support substrate that has an indicator to ensure correct positioning of the mobile device during a self-testing procedure. In some embodiments, the NFC tag is located on the mobile device package so that an orientation of the mobile device is known during a portion of the mobile device self-testing procedure, and the support substrate is configure for supporting the mobile device during the self-testing procedure.

Methods and apparatus for consumer testing of an NFC device

Prepaid staging account systems and methods are described that allow issuer financial institutions to quickly and efficiently launch NFC device payment programs. In an embodiment, a staging account provider computer receives a request to provision a mobile account. The staging account provider computer generates a mobile account PAN and associates it with a funding account PAN, and transmits a personalization request to personalize a payment application for the cardholder's mobile device to a trusted service manager (TSM) computer. The staging account provider computer receives a status confirmation message from the TSM computer indicating that the payment application has been personalized and loaded onto the cardholder's mobile device, and then transmits a mobile account initialization message that includes the mobile account PAN to the primary issuer.

In accordance with some embodiments, a method includes receiving, in a proximity coupling system, holder consent to provide a human understandable indication of an account balance associated with a payment account; and providing a human understandable indication of the account balance associated with the payment account via an output device, in response at least in part to the consent; wherein receiving holder consent comprises receiving holder consent provided via a proximity payment device associated with the payment account. In accordance with some embodiments, a method includes storing account data and preference data in a proximity payment device, the preference data indicative of a preferred method to provide a human understandable indication of an account balance.
