A method of forming a gas treatment element for use in a gas treatment apparatus, such as a desiccant dryer, is disclosed. The element is formed by casting a sheet material by phase inversion of a dope mixture including a solvent, an adsorbent material such as a desiccant and a polymer binder. Layers of the sheet material are located adjacent one another and this is most readily achieved by rolling the sheet material to form the gas treatment element.

An End Cap for an Assembly Used in the Preparation of Compressed Gas An end cap for attaching to one or more filter elements and respective filter bowls is disclosed. The end cap has a tubular body formed by extrusion and this body has a series of apertures formed therein. The apertures include an end aperture for attachment to a filter bowl and another end aperture for attachment to another filter bowl or to a sealing disc. The body also has a pair of sidewall apertures to act as inlet and outlet the filter assembly. The end cap also has a plastic insert for insertion into the body, the insert having a conduit portion for directing a stream of gas from the inlet to a filter element through one of the end apertures.

End cap for an assembly used in the preparation of compressed gas

An apparatus for contaminant reduction in a stream of compressed gas is disclosed. The apparatus includes an insert for directing the gas. The insert sits in a head portion which has an inlet leading to an inlet pathway for directing the gas towards the insert. The head portion also has an outlet leading from an outlet pathway for directing the gas from the insert towards the outlet. There is also a body portion sealed to the head portion for collecting contaminants removed from the gas. The insert includes a tubular portion connected to the head portion. Gas from the inlet pathway passes outside the tubular portion while gas going to the outlet passes inside the tubular portion. The insert has a baffle extending from the tubular portion for narrowing the gap between the insert and the body portion and has curved walls extending from the baffle causing the stream of gas to rotate thereby form a vortex.

Apparatus for contaminant reduction in a stream of compressed gas

A filter apparatus for filtering a stream of gas is disclosed. The apparatus has a head with an inlet and an outlet, the head also having a first flow conduit connected to the inlet and a second flow conduit the outlet. The apparatus also has a filter and a bowl which contains the filter and is connected to the head. The bowl an annular recess. There is also a connector for connecting the filter to the head and the bowl. The part of the connector that engages the bowl has a protrusion that is inserted into the recess.

Filter apparatus for filtering a stream of gas

A pressure swing adsorption apparatus for the removal of one or more components such as oxygen from a mixture of gases such as air is disclosed. The apparatus includes pairs of columns () for receiving a stream of compressed air with one column operating in a working mode whilst the other said column operates in a purging mode. The columns contain carbon molecular sieve material () for adsorbing oxygen and a desiccant material formed into a plurality of tubes ().

Pressure swing adsorption apparatus

A method and apparatus for removing water from compressed air is disclosed. The method includes the steps of passing a stream of compressed air through a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) dryer. The dryer includes at least one vessel containing a desiccant material bound into pieces, for example tubes, using a polymer binder. The PSA dryer also has a control system for controlling the flow of the compressed air and switching between drying and purging modes. In particular the vessel and desiccant material contained therein are sized to produce a dew point suppression of less than 50&#xb0; C.

Method and apparatus for removing water from compressed air

A pressure swing adsorption apparatus for treatment of gases is disclosed. It includes a main inlet for receiving a flow of gas and one or more adsorption columns containing adsorption material. The columns are connected by a channel and the channel has an annular recess therein to receive a valve. The valve includes a support member formed from a pair of truncated cones and having slots extending therethrough. The valve also has a tubular membrane that surrounds the support member and is movable, in response to pneumatic pressure applied to the membrane, between a first position in which the membrane does not block the slots thereby allowing the gases to flow and a second position in which the membrane blocks the slots thereby preventing said gases from flowing through the valve.

A fluid separation device () for separating water from a stream of compressed air, has a housing () defining a first volume () with two apertures () therein in communication with the first volume, the first volume and the apertures being adapted to have a stream of air flowing there through, a first filter () contained within the first volume for separating liquid water from the air stream, and a plurality of desiccant beads contained within the first volume for separating water vapor from the air. An exhaust silencer for the fluid separation device is also disclosed.

Fluid separation device

A fluid treatment device is disclosed. The device includes a vessel having a fluid entrance and exit. Within the vessel hollow fiber of nano-porous material are arranged so as to define two volumes separated by the nano-porous material. In one embodiment the fluid, air, passes up the center of the hollow fiber drying as the air contacts the inner walls of the fiber. The device is purged by stopping the flow through the device and allowing the air pressure that builds up between the fibers to be released through the nano-porous material.

Fluid treatment device

A gas dryer includes a housing, and a drying drum in the housing which is permeable to allow a flow of gas through the drum between its opposite first and second ends. A first flow guide is located at the first end of the drum and a second flow guide is located at the second end of the drum. The first and second flow guides define between them a primary region of the drum for a primary gas flow to flow through the drum, and a secondary region of the drum for a secondary gas flow to flow through the drum, and are mounted for rotation about the drum axis so that boundaries between the primary and secondary regions rotate around the drum. The permeable structure of the drying drum and the flow guides allow the primary and secondary gas flows to flow through their respective regions of the drum without significant mixing.

Gas dryer

A drum dryer comprises a drying drum which is arranged for a gas to flow through it to be dried from a first end of the drum to its opposite second end, and a housing in which the drum is located with a space around the drum between the internal wall of the housing and the external surface of the drum. Gas can be directed into the space through a housing inlet, to flow in the space to the first end of the drum where it can be admitted into the drum for drying.

A filter assembly for collecting material that is entrained in a gas stream includes a housing for a tubular elements arranged for the gas stream to flow through its wall, the housing having inlet and outlet ports for the gas that is to be filtered. The assembly includes a flow conduit which has a first conduit opening for communication with one of the ports for the gas that is to be filtered and a second conduit opening for communication with the filter element. The housing and the flow conduit are arranged so that the formation of a seal between the first conduit opening and the said port involves sliding the flow conduit generally transversely relative to the direction of flow of fluid through the port.

Filter assembly

A filter assembly for collecting material that is entrained in a gas stream comprises a housing for a tubular filter element arranged for the gas stream to flow through its wall, having inlet and outlet ports for the gas that is to be filtered. The housing comprises an end cap and a body section in which the filter element is located when the assembly is in use, with at least one of the ports for gas to be filtered being provided in the end cap. The assembly includes a flow conduit device which can be located within the end cap when the assembly is in use, in which a first conduit opening is arranged for communication with the port in the end cap and a second conduit opening is arranged for communication with the filter element located in the housing body section. The flow circuit presents a continuous smooth flow path to gas flowing along it between the first and second conduit openings.

Filter assembly having end cap with separable flow conduit

A filter assembly for collecting material that is entrained in a gas stream includes a housing for a tubular filter element. The housing has an inlet and an outlet for the gas that is to be filtered, and includes a body section and a separable end cap. The body section has at least one longitudinally extending formation in its internal wall and its cross section is substantially constant along its length. The body section has a generally transverse groove formed in its internal wall which can be engaged by the end cap to connect it to the body section, the transverse groove having a discontinuity at a longitudinally extending edge of the longitudinally extending formation.
