An optical receiver includes an integrated receiver chip includes a data port configured to receive an optical data signal derived from a receive optical signal, a first waveguide coupled to the data port and configured to transmit the optical data signal from the data port to an optical waveguide circuit of the integrated receiver chip, a power monitoring port configured to receive an optical monitoring signal derived from the receive optical signal, and a second waveguide coupled to the power monitoring port and configured to transmit the optical monitoring signal to a monitor photodiode that is monolithically integrated in the integrated receiver chip. The monitor photodiode is configured to convert the optical monitoring signal into an electrical signal representative of an optical input power of the receive optical signal.

In some implementations, an optical assembly includes an optical power monitor to receive a portion of an optical beam and to perform a measurement on the portion of the optical beam; an optical tap to tap the optical beam and provide the portion of the optical beam; and an optical element to allow the portion of the optical beam from the optical tap to propagate toward the optical power monitor, wherein the optical element includes an absorptive material to absorb light other than the portion of the optical beam that is propagated toward the optical power monitor.

An optical locker may include an assembly. The assembly may include a beam splitter, configured to split an input beam into at least three beams; an etalon having at least three regions, positioned so that each beam passes through a different region; a detector configured to measure output intensities, Tn, of the etalon for the beam; and a controller configured to determine a ratio, Ta/Tb, of the output intensities, wherein that ratio has a slope at the output intensities which is above a threshold, obtain a target frequency of the input beam, and determine an actual frequency of the input beam based on the target frequency and the ratio of the output intensities.

Optical frequency measurement device

An assembly includes an etalon assembly for dynamically locking a frequency of an optical beam to a set frequency, the etalon assembly being external to a laser source assembly that outputs the optical beam. The etalon assembly includes an etalon that receives the optical beam and generates via interference effects a transmission beam, the etalon having a thermal tuning range greater than one half of a free spectral range of the etalon. The etalon assembly also includes an etalon heater mounted to the etalon such that the etalon heater is configured to adjust the temperature of the etalon. The assembly includes a controller configured to retrieve calibration data based on the set frequency, calculate a set temperature for the etalon using a thermal tuning algorithm and the calibration data, and control the etalon heater such that the etalon has a temperature equal to the calculated set temperature.
