A device for immobilizing adjacent spinous processes can comprise a first element, a second element, and a spacer element. The first element can have a side configured to grip first sides of the adjacent spinous processes and a first separation bar that extends between the adjacent spinous processes when the first element and the spinous processes are engaged. The spacer element can have an adjustment bar and a second separation bar. The second element can have a side configured to grip second sides of the adjacent spinous processes and a clamping feature configured to selectably lock the first separation bar and the adjustment bar in place. The second separation bar can extend between the adjacent spinous processes when the second element and the adjacent spinous processes are engaged.

Spinous process device

A spinal implant and method of implanting a spinal implant that has a spacer and a plate configured to be fastened to a plurality of vertebral bodies. The plate is coupled to the spacer, with the spacer and the plate being angularly adjustable with respect to each other.

Articulating spinal implant

An intervertebral spacer can have a leading end and a trailing end that includes an engaging portion configured to securely engage complementary features of an insertion tool at any of a plurality of different angles. The engaging portion can have a first radius and a major axis extending from the leading end to the trailing end. The trailing end can have a channel formed around a partially cylindrical portion having a second radius that is less than the first radius. The channel can be configured to accept an extending portion of the insertion tool.

An intervertebral spacer includes a leading end, a trailing end comprising an opening having a clearance and a post positioned across the clearance. The post has an external surface configured to accept an extending portion of an insertion tool and to torsionally engage a complementary surface of the insertion tool at a plurality of different angles.

A motion restoring intervertebral device includes first and second articulating components positioned between adjacent vertebrae with the articulating surface of the first component being formed by a circular domed convex projection having a first radius. The articulating surface of the second component is formed by a generally concave recess having the first radius in the medial-lateral direction and a second larger sweeping radius in the interior-posterior direction so that the components are capable of rotating against each other in all directions and translate against each other in the anterior-posterior direction, whereby translation away from the center of the first radius will produce device and joint distraction to limit excessive translation.

Motion restoring intervertebral device

A motion restoring prosthesis to be interposed between the ends of two bones adjoining a mammalian appendage or spinal joint is formed of two components with the components having inner cooperating articulating surfaces and outer bone engaging surfaces. At least one of the components has an inner section made of relatively hard, stiff material defining one or the articulating surfaces and an outer section made of a softer material defining the bone engaging surface. The softer material having a hardness/stiffness characteristic compatible with the bone to reduce stress shielding and more evenly distribute the forces from the articulating surfaces to the associate bone interface.

Prosthesis for restoring motion in an appendage or spinal joint and an intervertebral spacer

A anti-splay and rod securing member for use with vertebral implants of the hook, monoaxial and polyaxial types, in which a pair of arcuate upstanding internally threaded posts define a transverse opening for securing a rod to immobilize bone segments comprises an integrally formed cap and set screw with the cap having opposed curved side walls extending around the posts and flat end walls, the set screw being positioned within the posts and free to rotate within the cap so that rotation of the set screw will advance the cap and set screw in unison along the implant posts to clamp the rod and implant together. The implant may be provided with opposed catch basins for releasably securing the distal end of a rod persuasion instrument.
