The invention provides for a method of encrypting and executing an executable image, comprising; flagging sections of the executable image to be encrypted using commands in source files and compiling said executable images so as to generate object files, linking one or more of said executable images using a linker to produce a final executable image, passing said linked executable images to a post-linker encryption engine to encrypt a relocation fix-up patch table and sections of executable images flagged for encryption, and at load time decrypting relocating and executing the executable images.

Program executable image encryption

An MPEG decoder (-) can use different formats (linear tiled etc) for image data memory () for reference pictures when decoding subsequent pictures. Each format brings advantages and disadvantages. The disclosure illustrates that it is possible for different video sequences to have characteristics which match one image buffer format well, but not another, for example where there is a lot of motion or only a little motion between images. Advantageously, the decoder employs a parameterised image buffer format and analysis of the incoming stream and/or measured decoding performance () so as to dynamically choose () the best image buffer format for the current part of a stream. Cache control features can also be controlled () to suit the particular data received.

Method and apparatus for processing image data

The invention provides for a method and related device and control program for use in decoding executable code in a processing system, for example run-time operating system, including bit-shuffling code at run-time, and including the steps of dividing the code into a plurality of sub-portions, identifying sub-portions of the code that can be bit-shuffled prior to the said run-time and bit-shuffling the said identified sub-portions prior to run-time so as to reduce the bit-shuffling required at run-time.
