This invention relates to compounds and uses thereof in the treatment or prophylaxis of diseases associated with inflammation.

Immunomodulatory compounds

There is provided compounds of formula (I), wherein R, R, R, Q, X, Q, Q, A and D have meanings given in the description, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof, which compound, salt or solvate binds to the minor groove of DNA. 

Minor groove binders

There is provided an oligopeptide compound comprising: (a) at least one nitrogen-containing basic group attached to at least one end of the oligopeptide; and (b) two or more heterocyclic monomers, at least one of which is substituted in the heterocyclic part by a branched, cyclic or part cyclic Calkyl group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof; which compound, salt or solvate binds to the minor groove of DNA.

DNA minor groove binding compounds

The present invention relates to the preparation of substantially pure diastereoisomers of derivatives of tetrahydrofolate and the use of such diastereoisomers. More particularly the present invention provides a process for the preparation of a desired substantially pure (6R or 6S) diastereoisomer of a derivative of tetrahydrofolic acid or salt or ester. The process comprises the steps of: attaching a chiral auxiliary group at either N-5 or N-10 of a mixture of 6R and 6S diastereoisomers of tetrahydrofolic acid, separating the new diastereoisomers, recovering the desired new diastereoisomer (6R or 6S) corresponding to the desired (6R or 6S) diastereoisomer, and converting the substantially pure new diastereoisomer recovered into the corresponding diastereoisomer.

Optically active compounds

Substantially pure diastereoisomers of tetrahydrofolate derivatives

A process for performing an enzyme-catalyzed reaction in a reaction mixture comprising two phases, a first aqueous phase containing an enzyme which is not accessible and a second substantially non-aqueous phase containing a non-water miscible solvent wherein a compound derived from fluorescein or a substituted fluorescein is present for the purpose of measuring aqueous pH by monitoring spectroscopic properties. Novel compounds derived from fluorescein or a substituted fluorescein which may be used in the process and a method for producing some of the novel compounds are also claimed.
