An electronic device, comprising: a support plate having a rear face and a front face; an electronic integrated circuit chip having a rear face mounted on the front face of the support plate and including an optical component in a front face; and a sleeve forming a traversing passage and having a rear edge and a front edge at the opposite ends of the traversing passage, the rear edge being mounted on the front face of the chip, in such a position that the optical component of the chip is facing the traversing passage of the sleeve.

Electronic device comprising a chip provided with an optical sensor

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to optical packages having a package body that includes a light protection coating on at least one surface of a transparent material. The light protection coating includes one or more openings to allow light to be transmitted to the optical device within the package body. In one embodiment, the light protection coating and the openings allow substantially perpendicular radiation to be directed to the optical device within the package body. In one exemplary embodiment the light protection coating is located on an outer surface of the transparent material. In another embodiment, the light protection coating is located on an inner surface of the transparent material inside of the package body.

Semiconductor optical package and method

A time of flight detector includes an electromagnetic radiation emitter configured to emit a beam of radiation. A first optical element receives the beam of radiation and generates a collimated beam of radiation. A second optical element defines a narrow imaging field of view sufficient to capture reflected electromagnetic radiation from the collimated beam. An electromagnetic radiation sensor then senses the captured reflected electromagnetic radiation from the collimated beam in the narrow imaging field of view. Further narrowing of the imaging field of view is accomplished by selective enabling a sub-array of photosensitive elements with the electromagnetic radiation sensor.

Optical system for extended time of flight ranging

An optical navigation device for use with mobile telephones and the like is disclosed, which has a reduced height as compared with current designs. The navigation device comprises a laser such as a VCSEL laser, an exposed user surface and two other surfaces that provide for total internal reflection of the incident laser beam. The surfaces are constructed with shallower than normal angles, preserving the basic functionality of the device while reducing the height.

Lensless optical navigation device for directing radiation via reflection by three total internal surfaces

An optical navigation device may include an image sensor with an imaging surface, a laser, and an optical waveguide layer having an exposed user surface and a total internal reflection (TIR) surface on the underside of the exposed user surface. The waveguide layer, the laser, and the image sensor may be together arranged to direct radiation emitted by the laser onto the imaging surface at least partly by total internal reflection by the TIR surface.

Optical navigation device

A radiation sensor of the type having a packaged radiation source and detector, which includes an isolator that blocks propagation within the package of radiation from the source to the detector, in order to improve signal to noise ratio of the sensor. The isolator is formed by appropriately formed surfaces of the package.

Packaged radiation source and detector

An assembly is adapted for being employed in an optical navigation device, such as that used on a computer or mobile communications device. The assembly includes a housing device and an optical device, wherein the housing device includes a receiving section for receiving the optical device. The receiving section has a first and a second opening. The housing device has first and second vertical registration features for aligning the optical device with the housing device. The first and second vertical registration features are spatially associated with the first and second opening respectively.

Optical navigation devices

The internal propagation of radiation between a radiation source and radiation detector mounted within a sensor package is prevented by the use of an optical isolator. The optical isolator is formed by the combination of a baffle mounted between the source and detector and a groove formed in an upper surface of the sensor package between the source and detector. A bottom of the groove is positioned adjacent to an upper edge of the baffle.

Proximity sensor

A proximity sensor includes a sensor package having an attachment pad with a radiation source and a radiation detector housed within the sensor package. The source and the detector are held in a fixed relation to the attachment pad, and are mounted by one of a direct or indirect attachment to the attachment pad. A portion of the attachment pad is adapted to form a baffle which forms at least part of an optical isolator. The optical isolator is adapted to substantially prevent the internal propagation of radiation between the source and the detector within the sensor package.

Compact proximity sensor suppressing internal reflection

A lens mounting assembly includes a lens barrel with a first lens assembly. A lens mount includes an image sensor, and the lens barrel matingly connects with the lens mount in a manner which allows the first lens assembly to be moved along an optical axis to adjust a focus on the image sensor. A second lens assembly is provided for adjusting the focus on the image sensor during use of the lens. An alignment projection is provided on at least one of the first or second lens assemblies, the alignment projection being adapted to mate with a portion of the other of the first or second lens assemblies in order to directly optically align the first and second lens assemblies with the image sensor.

Lens mounting assembly and method of aligning lenses in a mounting assembly

A focusing device for a lens, including a frame, a lens carrier movable relative to the frame from a first position along an optical axis, a motor for driving the lens carrier along the optical axis, and at least one biasing member adapted to bias the lens carrier towards the first position. The biasing member may include one or more bending members.

Focussing apparatus

A lens unit includes a lens having a focal length variable responsive to an applied electrical field, and an electrical connector. The electrical connector is a flexible circuit element that connects the lens to an electrical power supply.
