The present invention discloses polythiol compositions containing polythiol molecules having both thiol groups and intermolecular sulfide groups. Processes for producing such polythiol compositions also are described.

Methods of mercaptanizing unsaturated compounds and compositions produced therefrom

The invention pertains to a method for providing a metallic or concrete surface of a chemical installation with a coating, which comprises the steps of&#x2014;providing a two-pack coating composition wherein the first pack comprises an epoxy resin and the second pack comprises an amine curing agent for the epoxy resin, the coating composition further comprising an organoboron compound of the formula BX1X2X3, wherein X1, X2, and X3 are independently selected from &#x2014;Y1 and &#x2014;OY2, wherein Y1 is independently selected from monovalent C1-C12 alkyl groups and monovalent C6-C12 aryl groups, and Y2 is independently selected from monovalent C1-C12 alkyl groups and monovalent C6-C12 aryl groups, and wherein at least one of X1, X2, and X3 is an &#x2014;OY2 group,&#x2014;combining the first pack and the second pack to form a coating composition,&#x2014;applying the coating composition to the surface of a chemical installation to form a coating layer, and&#x2014;allowing the coating layer to cure at a temperature in the range of 0 to 50&#xb0; C. A chemical installation provided with a lining of a cured coating composition as specified above, and a suitable coating composition, are also claimed. It has been found that the coating composition as specified herein has a wide application spectrum, and a high chemical resistance.

Coating method for surfaces in chemical installations

The invention pertains to a method for providing a metallic or concrete surface of a chemical installation with a coating, which comprises the steps of&#x2014;providing a coating composition comprising epoxy-functional resin, and amine curing agent for the epoxy-functional resin, wherein the coating composition comprises an organic silicon-containing compound selected from the group of organosilanes and organosiloxanes, with the molar ratio between the silicon atoms of the organic silicon-containing compound and the epoxy-groups in the coating composition being in the range of 0.20-0.75:1.00, &#x2014;applying the coating composition to a metallic or concrete surface of a chemical installation to form a coating layer, and&#x2014;allowing the coating layer to cure at a temperature in the range of 0 to 50&#xb0; C. The invention also pertains to a chemical installation comprising a metallic or concrete surface provided with a lining of a cured coating composition and to a coating composition suitable for providing a metallic or concrete surface of a chemical installation with a coating. It has been found that the coating composition of the present invention shows a wide application spectrum and a high chemical resistance.

The present invention relates to a curable coating composition, comprising: (a) a curable coating resin comprising thiol-reactive groups, (b) a thiolated norbornene curing agent for the curable coating resin, the thiolated norbornene curing agent comprising on average at least 1.0 thiol group per molecule, and (c) an accelerator for accelerating the reaction between the thiol reactive-groups on the curable coating resin and the thiol groups on the thiolated norbornene curing agent. These coating compositions can be cured at ambient temperature and provide a coated surface that can be walked on after only a couple of hours. The coating compositions in general have a VOC below 250 g/L. The coating compositions can be used for the protection of large steel structures, such as ships, buildings, bridges, industrial plants, and oil production installations.

Curable coating composition

The present invention discloses polythiol compositions containing intermolecular sulfide compounds and at least one of 5-(2-mercaptoethyl)norbornane-2-thiol and 5-(2-mercaptoethyl)norbornane-3-thiol. These polythiol compositions can be derived from 5-vinylnorborn-2-ene, and are often used in formulations for adhesives and other end-use applications.

Mercaptanized vinylnorbornene compositions and methods of making same

The present invention discloses processes for forming polythiol compositions from olefinic hydrocarbons such as cyclooctadiene, cyclododecatriene, and trivinylcyclohexane. The polythiol compositions produced from these processes, including the sulfur-containing compounds of these compositions, also are described.

Methods of mercaptanizing olefinic hydrocarbons and compositions produced therefrom

Non-aqueous pigment concentrate comprising one or more pigments, one or more dispersants, and at least one resin, characterized in that the resin is a polyester comprising at least one oligo-ester building block with a hydrophobic tail linked thereto, wherein the hydrophobic tail is selected from the group consisting of: (a) branched hydrocarbons, (b) hydrocarbons containing a cyclic group, and (c) linear hydrocarbons, provided that when said linear hydrocarbon is linked to the oligo-ester building block via an ester group, the linear hydrocarbon contains 3 to 12 carbon atoms.

A coating, sealant or adhesive composition curable at ambient temperatures of 40&deg; C. or below comprises an epoxy resin and an amine-functional curing agent. The curing agent comprises a material containing at least two, and preferably at least three, heterocyclic secondary amine group.
